Venu Srinivasan Re-appointed As Chairman & MD Of Sundaram Clayton

CW Bureau ·

Auto components major Sundaram Clayton Ltd (SCL) has reappointed Venu Srinivasan as its chairman and managing director with immediate effect, marking a significant leadership shift at the company.

Transition follows chairman’s step-down

The move follows the resignation of R Gopalan as chairman. Gopalan, however, will continue to remain on the board in the capacity of a non-executive independent director. The changes were formally approved by the company’s board during its meeting held on March 27.

Promoter control remains strong

The promoter group, led by Srinivasan and his family, continues to maintain a dominant stake of nearly 59% in the company, ensuring strategic continuity amid the leadership reshuffle.

Return after succession-led transition

This development comes nearly four years after Gopalan, who was then serving as a non-executive independent director, was elevated to the role of chairman in April 2022, succeeding Srinivasan.

Srinivasan’s earlier transition out of the chairman’s role was widely viewed as part of a broader succession planning exercise across the TVS Group.

Next-Gen leadership context

As part of that transition, in May 2022, Srinivasan’s daughter, Lakshmi Venu, was appointed MD, signalling a generational shift in leadership within the company.
