IndiGo Appoints Global Aviation Veteran Willie Walsh As Its CEO

The board of directors of InterGlobe Aviation Ltd (IndiGo) has appointed aviation veteran Willie Walsh as the chief executive officer of the low-cost airline.

Walsh, currently Director General of International Air Transport Association (IATA), will conclude his tenure at the global aviation body on July 31, 2026, and is expected to assume charge at IndiGo on August 3, 2026.

Distinguished career across global aviation

Widely known as Willie, Walsh brings decades of leadership experience in global aviation. He previously served as CEO of British Airways and later led International Airlines Group (IAG), the parent company of Aer Lingus, British Airways, Iberia, LEVEL, and Vueling.

His career began as a pilot and progressed through key leadership roles, including Chief Operating Officer and CEO of Aer Lingus (2000–2005), CEO of British Airways (2005–2011), CEO of IAG (2011–2020), and Director General of IATA thereafter.

Exceptional global aviation leader

As CEO, Walsh will be responsible for the overall management and strategic direction of IndiGo. His focus will include driving transformational initiatives, strengthening operational performance, expanding the airline’s network and commercial strategy, and enhancing customer experience.

He will work closely with the board and leadership team to position IndiGo for its next phase of growth in one of the world’s fastest-growing aviation markets.
