Tejas Networks has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar (IITGN) to strengthen collaboration in telecom research, innovation and skill development, in line with India’s push to build indigenous capabilities in digital infrastructure.
The partnership is aimed at advancing work in emerging telecom technologies, including next-generation wireless systems, optical networking and future-ready communication frameworks.
Centre of Excellence planned
As part of the agreement, the two entities will establish a telecom Centre of Excellence at IIT-Gandhinagar. The facility will focus on training, innovation and deployment-oriented learning across both wireline and wireless technologies.
The centre is expected to serve as a bridge between academia and industry by fostering applied research and creating solutions that can be deployed in real-world telecom networks. It will also support the development of a skilled talent pool to meet the growing demands of the telecom sector.
Driving applied research
The collaboration will enable joint research initiatives aligned with national priorities, with a focus on developing technologies that enhance network performance, scalability and resilience.
Such industry-academia partnerships are gaining traction as telecom networks evolve towards software-defined architectures, requiring deeper integration of hardware, software and advanced analytics.
Aligning with national vision
Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar, Director, Rajat Moona, said: “We are delighted to partner with Tejas Networks, India’s leading IPR and R&D-driven telecom product company, to drive world-class research, develop cutting-edge solutions and advance global standards in emerging telecom technologies. This MoU is a first step towards building a thriving telecom industry in Gujarat that combines research excellence, skill development and industry deployment.”
He added that the initiative aligns with the Centre’s Atmanirbhar Bharat vision for strengthening the domestic telecom ecosystem.
Industry perspective
Tejas Networks, Chief Technology Officer, Kumar N. Sivarajan, said: “IIT Gandhinagar is emerging as a national hub for cutting-edge research in next-generation telecom technologies. We are proud to collaborate with IIT Gandhinagar and leverage our extensive industry experience and deep technology expertise to help accelerate these efforts.”
The partnership comes at a time when India is seeking to position itself as a global hub for telecom innovation, moving beyond network deployment to developing intellectual property and contributing to global standards.
