Bharti Airtel has crossed the 650 million customer milestone, reinforcing its position as the world’s second-largest telecom operator by subscriber base.
According to GSMA Intelligence, Airtel ranks second globally, with a strong presence spanning India and Africa.
Focus on trust and innovation
Bharti Airtel executive vice chairman Gopal Vittal described the milestone as both an achievement and a responsibility.
He emphasised that the company remains committed to investing in advanced technologies to deliver not just seamless connectivity but also a safe and reliable network. Airtel aims to deepen customer engagement by continuously raising the bar on innovation, reliability, and user experience.
India business anchors growth
In India, Airtel serves over 368 million mobile customers and has been at the forefront of next-generation connectivity. The company was among the first to roll out 5G Plus services, which now support a broader digital ecosystem, including Xstream AirFiber (fixed wireless access) and integrated IPTV offerings.
Airtel’s home broadband services reach over 13 million households, while its Digital TV platform serves more than 15 million customers. The company’s focus on customer-centric innovation is further reflected in its deployment of AI-powered spam protection at the network level.
Enterprise and digital services expansion
Through Airtel Business, the company provides mission-critical solutions to enterprise clients across domains such as cloud, cybersecurity, SD-WAN, IoT, and managed services.
These offerings are supported by an extensive infrastructure network, including over 400,000 route kilometres of subsea fibre and Nxtra’s green data centres, enabling the growing demand for AI and digital workloads.
In a strategic expansion, Airtel has also entered the NBFC space, leveraging its data capabilities to offer personalised financial products through its digital platforms.
Airtel Africa drives financial inclusion
Airtel Africa serves over 179 million customers across 14 countries, delivering integrated mobile voice, data, and roaming services.
A key pillar of its strategy is Airtel Money, a fast-growing mobile financial platform with over 52 million users, playing a crucial role in advancing financial inclusion by enabling banking and instant payments for underserved populations.
Expanding global connectivity through satellites
Beyond terrestrial networks, Airtel is strengthening its global connectivity capabilities through partnerships with Eutelsat OneWeb and SpaceX.
By leveraging Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite constellations, the company aims to deliver high-speed, low-latency broadband connectivity to remote geographies, including maritime, aviation, and rural regions.
