ICF Sets New Production Record With 3,405 Coaches, Registers 13% Rise

Integral Coach Factory (ICF), the premier passenger coach manufacturing unit of Indian Railways, has set a new production benchmark in FY26, surpassing its previous records.

Production rises 13% y-o-y; historic milestone achieved

During the financial year, ICF rolled out 3,405 coaches, registering a 13.2% growth over 3,007 coaches produced in FY25.

In a landmark achievement, the factory also rolled out its 8 lakhth coach since inception in February, marking a global milestone in rail coach manufacturing across its 70-year legacy.

Strong focus on modern rolling stock

Of the total output, 857 coaches comprised Distributed Power Rolling Stock (DPRS), including Vande Bharat Sleeper and Chair Car variants, along with Air-Conditioned EMU and MEMU coaches.

The remaining 2,548 coaches were LHB (Linke Hofmann Busch) coaches, which also included 22 rakes of Amrit Bharat Version 2.0, known for enhanced safety and improved passenger comfort.

Diverse production mix across segments

ICF’s production portfolio in FY26 reflected a strong mix of advanced trainsets and urban mobility solutions. This included the manufacturing of three rakes of Vande Bharat Sleeper trains and ten rakes of Vande Bharat Chair Car trains, alongside four rakes of Air-Conditioned EMU trains.

Additionally, the factory produced nine rakes for the Kolkata Metro, further strengthening urban transit infrastructure, while also delivering 22 rakes of Amrit Bharat Version 2.0 coaches.

The achievement underscores ICF’s continued focus on innovation, modernisation, and manufacturing excellence, playing a crucial role in strengthening India’s railway infrastructure and enhancing passenger experience.

He also marked the achievement by distributing sweets on April 1, 2026, celebrating the milestone with the workforce.
