Vodafone Idea (Vi), a leading telecom operator, has announced the launch of its 5G services in Chennai, marking a significant milestone in its commitment to deliver faster and enhanced connectivity to customers across India.
Presence now across all metro cities
With this launch, Vi 5G is now available across all five metro cities, Mumbai, Delhi-NCR, Bengaluru, Kolkata, and Chennai, along with 50 other cities, strengthening its presence in India’s top data markets.
Aggressive expansion plans underway
Earlier this month, the company announced plans to add 90 more cities nationwide. As part of its ongoing expansion strategy, Vi will extend 5G services to Coimbatore, Trichy, Salem, Tiruppur, Vellore, and the Union Territory of Pondicherry by May 2026.
Focus on high-growth and industrial markets
This expansion is part of Vi’s broader 5G rollout strategy to expand its footprint to 133 cities across 17 priority circles. The company is prioritising key markets, including industrial hubs, high data consumption centres, and emerging urban clusters in Tamil Nadu.
The rollout reflects this approach, covering industrial hubs such as Coimbatore, Salem, and Tiruppur; Vellore, a key healthcare and education hub; Tiruchirappalli (Trichy), a major education and commercial centre; and Pondicherry.
Advanced technology partnerships power network
To support a superior 5G experience, Vi has partnered with Nokia to deploy advanced, energy-efficient infrastructure and has implemented AI-powered Self-Optimising Networks (SON) to automatically optimise network performance.
Vi accelerates 5G rollout in Tamil Nadu & Pondicherry
Vodafone Idea, Circle Business Head, Tamil Nadu, Sai Venkataraman said, “We are accelerating the expansion of Vi’s 5G network across Tamil Nadu & Pondicherry, strengthening our footprint across key markets in the state. The launch in Chennai, along with our existing presence in Madurai and upcoming rollouts in cities like Coimbatore, Trichy, Salem, Tiruppur, and Vellore, marks an important step in this journey.”
Vi partners with Chennai Super Kings to boost engagement
As part of its continued investment in Tamil Nadu, Vi has also announced its sponsorship of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) as the team’s Official Communications Partner for the next three seasons.
This partnership underlines Vi’s commitment to supporting grassroots talent development through the Super Kings Academy, while also creating a platform to engage with cricket fans across the state.
