Balu Forge Moves Defence Orders To Dispatch, Gets Aerospace Approvals

CW Bureau ·

Balu Forge Industries Ltd, a precision engineering and heavy machining company, has reported a series of execution milestones across defence, aerospace, oil and gas and heavy mobility, signalling progress in its efforts to expand into high-value manufacturing segments and international markets.

The company has moved previously announced defence orders into dispatch, secured quality approval for its 155mm Extended Range Full Bore (ERFB) artillery shell and received fresh orders from domestic and international customers following stringent technical and manufacturing audits.

The developments include new customer additions in the United States, Europe and India’s defence sector, strengthening Balu Forge’s order pipeline and expanding its presence across strategically important industries.

Defence orders move into commercial execution
Balu Forge has commenced multiple dispatches of 152mm empty shells against an earlier announced order, demonstrating progress in converting its defence order book into commercial supplies.

A significant technical achievement is the successful production and quality approval of its 155mm ERFB artillery shell. The component has achieved a Total Indicated Runout (TIR) forging tolerance of 3 mm and a machined wall tolerance of 0.3 mm.

The approval marks an important step in the company’s efforts to expand its large-calibre ammunition manufacturing capabilities. Serial dispatches of the 155mm ERFB shells are expected to begin shortly.

Separately, the company has secured approval and fresh orders for 105mm empty shells from a large Indian government defence unit, with dispatches scheduled to commence shortly.

These developments strengthen its position in the domestic defence manufacturing supply chain, particularly in large-calibre ammunition components.

Aerospace entry through jet engine components
In aerospace, Balu Forge has received quality approval for precision-engineered jet engine components, marking its entry into a sector characterised by stringent manufacturing and quality requirements.

The components have cleared approval against demanding dimensional tolerances. The company is now working towards expanding its product portfolio in the aerospace segment.

The development provides an entry point into a high-barrier manufacturing market where specialised machining capabilities and consistent quality standards are critical for securing long-term customer relationships.

US oil & gas major places large-component order
Balu Forge has secured an order from one of the largest oil and gas companies in the United States for large components weighing more than 450 kg.

The order follows a successful plant audit and drawing approval, validating the company’s manufacturing capabilities for heavy, precision-engineered components.

The development strengthens its presence in the international energy supply chain and expands its exposure to the oil and gas sector.

The company sees opportunities in the segment amid renewed demand for energy-related equipment under the prevailing geopolitical environment.

Czech armoured vehicle manufacturer adds to customer base
In another international development, Balu Forge has received a purchase order from a major armoured vehicle manufacturer based in the Czech Republic.

The manufacturer supplies vehicles used in defence, mining and quarrying, construction and drilling applications.

The order strengthens Balu Forge’s presence in the European heavy mobility and defence manufacturing ecosystem, while providing an opportunity to deepen relationships with original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) in the region.

The addition of customers across the US and Europe also reflects the company’s efforts to diversify its geographical presence and reduce dependence on individual end-user industries.

Targets 25-30% annual revenue growth
Balu Forge Industries Ltd Executive Director Trimaan Chandock said the latest quarter marked a transition from order wins to actual execution, with dispatches of 152mm shells and approval of the 155mm ERFB demonstrating the company’s manufacturing capabilities.

He said the aerospace approvals and addition of customers in the US and Europe, following stringent audits, demonstrated the company’s ability to serve multiple industries and international markets.

The company is also in discussions with prospective customers across aerospace, oil and gas and other high-precision engineering segments. Regular customer visits to its manufacturing facilities indicate growing interest in its capabilities, Chandock said.

On the defence front, Balu Forge remains aligned with its expansion plans for additional variants of large-calibre ammunition. It has also secured a new order from India’s largest defence shell factory, further strengthening its position in the segment.

The company is targeting machining volumes of 80,000 tonnes and annual revenue growth of 25-30% over the next two years, followed by a significant ramp-up in the third year.

The latest developments indicate a broadening of Balu Forge’s manufacturing portfolio beyond conventional heavy engineering, with defence, aerospace and energy emerging as important growth avenues. The ability to translate technical approvals and customer audits into serial production and sustained dispatches will be crucial to achieving its stated growth targets.
