Air India is strengthening its presence in the Canada market with the launch of a new non-stop Mumbai-Toronto service for the Winter 2026-27 schedule, while deploying its brand-new Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner on Delhi-Toronto flights to offer an upgraded onboard experience.
The Tata Group-owned airline said the expansion will increase its capacity between India and Canada by 4,400 seats per month, while boosting premium seat capacity to Toronto by 71%.
Mumbai gets direct Toronto connection
Air India will introduce a three-times-a-week seasonal non-stop service between Mumbai and Toronto from October 25, 2026, to March 26, 2027, becoming the only airline to operate direct flights between the two cities.
The route will be served by an upgraded Boeing 777-300ER, featuring eight First Class suites, 40 Business Class flatbeds, 280 Economy seats, and onboard Wi-Fi connectivity.
The new service will add nearly 2,000 seats every week between India and Canada.
Premium experience for Toronto passengers
Air India has also begun operating its new Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner on the Delhi-Toronto route, bringing its latest cabin interiors and onboard products to Canadian passengers for the first time.
During the Winter 2026-27 schedule, seven of the 10 weekly Delhi-Toronto flights will be operated by the new Dreamliner, while the remaining three weekly services will initially use upgraded Boeing 777-300ER aircraft before transitioning to the Boeing 787-9 from January 2027 as more aircraft join the fleet.
From January 2027, all Air India flights to and from Toronto will feature either new or significantly upgraded cabin interiors.
Capacity expansion
The deployment of new and upgraded aircraft from Delhi and Mumbai will raise Air India’s premium seating capacity to Toronto by 71%, offering more First Class, Business Class and Premium Economy seats.
Passengers travelling to and from Canada will also be able to connect through Air India’s hubs in Delhi and Mumbai to destinations including Ahmedabad, Amritsar, Bengaluru, Chandigarh, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kochi, Ludhiana and Vadodara.
Focus on a key international market
Air India’s Chief Commercial Officer, Nipun Aggarwal, said Canada remains one of the airline’s most important international markets, driven by strong people-to-people ties and sustained demand, especially during the festive and holiday season.
He said the new Mumbai-Toronto route and the deployment of the airline’s latest aircraft reflect Air India’s strategy to enhance customer experience and strengthen its position in the competitive long-haul international market.
During the Winter 2026-27 season, Air India will operate 20 weekly flights between India and Canada, comprising 10 weekly Delhi-Toronto, three weekly Mumbai-Toronto, and seven weekly Delhi-Vancouver services.
