JBM Auto Commands Nearly Half Of India’s Electric Bus Market In May

CW Bureau ·

JBM Auto Ltd has emerged as the leading player in India’s electric bus segment with a 49% market share in May 2026, according to data from the Vahan portal.

The company recorded 157 electric bus registrations during the month, the highest among all industry participants, further strengthening its position in the country’s rapidly expanding electric mobility sector.

Retains leadership in electric bus segment
JBM Auto said its latest performance builds on the momentum achieved in FY26, when it registered the highest number of electric buses in the country.

The company attributed its strong showing to sustained execution and growing adoption of its electric mobility solutions by public transport operators.

The May 2026 figures also reflect the inclusion of Telangana’s vehicle registration data into the Vahan portal, providing a more comprehensive picture of electric bus deployment across India.

Manufacturing strength drives growth
The company said its growth has been supported by advanced manufacturing capabilities that enable the production of high-strength and lightweight electric bus platforms designed for efficient and sustainable public transportation.

JBM Auto continues to leverage global technologies to develop electric mobility solutions focused on reliability, performance and scalability.

Focus on sustainable public transport
JBM Auto Vice Chairman and Managing Director Nishant Arya said, “Our growth reflects a clear focus on decarbonising public transport while aligning with global benchmarks in sustainable mobility. At JBM Auto, we are building solutions that combine innovation, efficiency, and user-centric design. Our aim is not only to reduce emissions, but also to enhance everyday mobility by making it smarter, safer, and more accessible.”

World’s largest integrated e-bus facility outside China
JBM Auto operates what it claims is the world’s largest dedicated integrated electric bus manufacturing facility outside China.

Located in the National Capital Region (NCR), the facility has an annual production capacity of 20,000 electric buses. The company said its electric buses have collectively travelled more than 400 million e-kilometres and transported over one billion passengers.

According to JBM Auto, the deployment of its electric bus fleet has helped avoid more than one billion kilograms of carbon dioxide emissions to date, supporting India’s transition towards cleaner and more sustainable public transportation systems.
