Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has secured a major engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract from Kuwait Oil Company (KOC), reinforcing the Indian engineering giant’s strong position in West Asia’s hydrocarbon infrastructure market as oil-producing nations continue to invest in expanding export capacity.
The contract, classified by L&T as a ‘major’ order, valued between ₹5,000 crore and ₹10,000 crore, is for developing key export infrastructure for Kuwait’s Jurassic Light Oil (JLO) production programme.
The project involves engineering, procurement and construction of six new crude oil storage tanks, each with an operating capacity of 618,000 barrels, besides associated facilities, new pipelines and upgrades to Kuwait’s existing crude loading and export network. The integrated infrastructure is aimed at supporting higher crude production while improving the country’s export handling capabilities.
Strategic significance
The latest order underlines L&T’s growing dominance in large hydrocarbon EPC projects across the Gulf, where national oil companies are investing heavily to modernise infrastructure, improve operational efficiency and sustain long-term production capacity.
For L&T, the contract also strengthens its international order pipeline at a time when overseas projects account for a significant share of new business, helping diversify revenue beyond India’s infrastructure sector.
The order further demonstrates Kuwait Oil Company’s confidence in L&T’s execution capabilities for complex hydrocarbon projects involving storage, pipeline and export infrastructure.
Major project
“L&T is pleased to be entrusted with this major strategic project by Kuwait Oil Company. The development of the Jurassic Light Oil export infrastructure is an important investment in Kuwait’s energy sector and we are committed to supporting the country’s energy ambitions through reliable and world-class project execution,” L&T, Senior Vice President & Head, Energy Hydrocarbon Onshore, E S Sathyanarayanan, said.
L&T’s Energy Hydrocarbon Onshore business provides turnkey EPC solutions across upstream, midstream and downstream hydrocarbon segments. Over the years, it has executed refinery expansions, petrochemical complexes, LNG terminals, gas processing plants, fertiliser facilities and cross-country pipeline projects across global markets.
