Hyundai Motor India Ltd (HMIL) will launch the Hyundai BAYON in India on October 26, 2026, with the sport utility vehicle featuring a 1.5-litre petrol engine, two transmission options and intelligent driving technologies aimed at improving everyday driving performance.
The upcoming Intelligent Utility Vehicle (IUV) will be powered by a four-cylinder 1.5-litre MPi petrol engine producing 115 PS of maximum power and 143.8 Nm of maximum torque. Customers can choose between a six-speed manual transmission and an Intelligent Variable Transmission (iVT).
Hyundai has positioned the BAYON around its philosophy of “Intelligence That Moves”, combining powertrain refinement with technologies designed to improve responsiveness during city commutes, highway cruising and overtaking.
Proven 1.5-litre petrol engine
HMIL has sold more than six lakh vehicles equipped with its four-cylinder 1.5-litre MPi petrol engine since 2020. The company says the powertrain has established a reputation for refinement, reliability and everyday usability across its vehicle range.
The engine produces 84.4 kW of maximum power and 143.8 Nm of maximum torque. Its combination with manual and automatic transmission options is intended to cater to customers with different driving preferences.
iVT adds intelligent performance features
The Intelligent Variable Transmission (iVT) is designed to provide smooth power delivery and adapt to changing driving conditions. It is paired with features such as Dash Boost Mode, Sporty Drive Tech and paddle shifters to enhance driving responsiveness and engagement.
Dash Boost Mode is designed to deliver quicker acceleration when additional responsiveness is required, particularly during overtaking manoeuvres. Sporty Drive Tech aims to provide a more engaging acceleration experience.
The paddle shifters allow drivers to control transmission response from the steering wheel, adding another layer of driver involvement.
Three drive modes for different conditions
The BAYON offers Eco, Normal and Sport drive modes to help drivers adapt vehicle behaviour to their requirements.
Eco mode prioritises fuel efficiency, while Normal mode balances performance and efficiency for everyday driving. Sport mode provides a more responsive, performance-oriented driving experience.
A steering-mounted Drive Mode button allows drivers to switch between the settings conveniently.
Hyundai emphasises everyday driving confidence
Hyundai Motor India Limited Managing Director and CEO Tarun Garg said performance was not defined solely by power figures but also by how naturally and confidently a vehicle responded to the driver.
He said the combination of the 1.5-litre petrol engine, iVT and intelligent driving technologies was designed to deliver smooth, responsive performance across different road conditions and meet the evolving expectations of Indian customers.
