CW Bureau ·

Kothari Industrial Corporation Ltd (KICL), the flagship company of the D.C. Kothari group, has entered the FMCG sector with the launch of its beverage brand CHUSIP Coco Twist, starting with 100% natural tender coconut water sourced from coconut farms in Tamil Nadu.

The Chennai-based diversified company said the beverage contains no added sugar and no preservatives. The 200 ml pack is priced at ₹50, while a 1 litre pack is planned for launch soon.

₹2,500 crore beverage business target
KICL is targeting a ₹2,500 crore beverage business by 2035, with CHUSIP forming the starting point of its FMCG strategy.

In the first phase, the company plans to strengthen its presence across South India and appoint around 100 distributors and trade partners across Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Karnataka.

KICL plans to expand the beverage portfolio across general trade, modern trade and digital commerce, while gradually taking the brand to international markets.

Wider beverage portfolio planned
The company said CHUSIP will eventually offer a wider range of beverages, moving beyond tender coconut water to fruit drinks, fruit drinks with and without pulp, and products featuring Nata De Coco.

The portfolio is being positioned around convenience and natural ingredients, targeting consumers seeking refreshing beverage options for occasions including travel, work and leisure.

Focus on younger consumers
KICL said the launch follows research into changing consumer preferences, particularly growing interest in healthy, natural and authentic products.

The company is positioning Coco Twist as a low-calorie, naturally refreshing beverage aimed at modern consumers, including Gen Z.

Kothari Industrial Corporation Ltd, Executive Director, Dr. Jinnah Rafiq Ahamed, said, “Our research finding shows there is a trend emerging in India of consumers moving towards healthy, natural and authentic choices. We strongly believe this is the right time to bring back the purity of nature in the form of coconut water sourced from the finest coconut farms.”

He added that the launch marks KICL’s foray into FMCG and the first step towards building a portfolio rooted in nature, health and trust.

Diversified group expands into FMCG
KICL is headquartered in Chennai and has interests spanning fertilisers, industrial chemicals, minerals, sustainable industrial solutions, drones, education, facility management, hospitality and aviation services.

The group has a presence across five states in India. Through Phoenix Kothari Footwear Pvt. Ltd. and other initiatives, it has also set a target of creating more than 50,000 employment opportunities by 2027, with a focus on empowering women in backward districts of Tamil Nadu.

The entry into beverages adds FMCG to KICL’s portfolio as the company seeks to build a consumer-facing business around natural and convenience-oriented products.
