Kothari Industrial Corporation Ltd (KICL) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with The University of Western Australia (UWA) to strengthen industry-academia collaboration, with plans to explore setting up a Venture Creation Hub in Chennai and introducing industry-linked management and technology programmes.
The partnership will see KICL join the UWA Global Engagement Alliance, providing a platform for the two institutions to explore new approaches to industry-integrated learning, innovation and entrepreneurship in India.
UWA, ranked among the world’s top 100 universities and a member of Australia’s Group of Eight (Go8) research-intensive universities, will bring its academic and research expertise to the collaboration, while KICL will contribute its industrial experience and business network.
Proposed venture creation hub
A key component of the proposed collaboration is a Venture Creation Hub in Chennai, aimed at helping aspiring entrepreneurs convert business ideas into viable ventures.
The hub is expected to encourage entrepreneurial thinking and provide early-stage founders with exposure to industry perspectives, potentially helping them develop and scale their business ideas.
KICL has a diversified business network spanning agro-inputs, drones, media, hospitality, logistics, footwear and education. The partnership is expected to leverage this network to connect academic knowledge with practical industry experience.
Focus on AI and technology-led management
The two institutions will also explore industry-linked learning programmes in management and technology, addressing emerging business requirements and changing workforce needs.
The proposed areas of learning include AI-enabled decision-making in business and technology, technology for managers, and management for technologists.
The programmes are intended to bridge the gap between academic education and industry requirements by combining specialised knowledge with practical business perspectives.
Kothari Industrial Corporation Ltd Executive Chairman and Managing Director Dr. J. Rafiq Ahmed, said the collaboration would help develop a model for bringing global academia and industry together in Tamil Nadu.
“India now needs creators and leaders for a new age. By bringing UWA’s global impact together with KICL’s industry affiliates and network, we are building in Tamil Nadu a model for how global academia and industry can work together. It is a win-win for students, industry, academia and the wider economy,” he said.
The University of Western Australia Pro Vice Chancellor Professor Rajaraman Eri said the collaboration would create opportunities to connect academic expertise with industry experience and entrepreneurial thinking.
Kothari Industrial Corporation Ltd Director – Education, Mathivathani R P said the initiative would focus on developing entrepreneurs and leaders by connecting academic learning with emerging technologies and real-world business opportunities.
Implementation plans to be finalised
