CW Bureau ·

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) has approved the construction of the Central Government General Pool Office Accommodation (CGGPOA) in the new capital city of Amaravati, Andhra Pradesh, at an estimated cost of ₹1,299.08 crore.

The project is a key infrastructure initiative in the greenfield capital city and is aimed at meeting the growing demand for office space for various Central Government departments by bringing them under a single integrated campus.

Centralising government offices
The proposed office complex is expected to improve inter-departmental coordination and enhance the efficiency of services delivered by the Central Government in Andhra Pradesh.

Planned over 5.53 acres, the CGGPOA will comprise two office blocks. One block on Plot C-9 will feature Ground plus 13 floors, including service areas, podium parking and office space, while the second block on Plot C-8 will have Ground plus 10 floors with a similar configuration.

The facility is designed to accommodate approximately 8,000 officials and staff members and will offer podium parking for around 1,800 equivalent car spaces (ECS).

Large-scale infrastructure project
The project will have a total built-up area of approximately 23.25 lakh square feet (2,16,032 square metres), making it one of the largest government office complexes planned in the region.

The office campus will include several civic and employee-centric facilities such as a bank with ATM, post office, crèche, recreation room, ladies’ room, conference hall with seating for 100 people, a multipurpose hall with seating capacity of 500, and four canteens.

Focus on sustainability
The government said the project will be developed in line with advanced green building standards and sustainability principles. The campus is being planned to achieve a minimum GRIHA 4-Star rating and will comply with the latest Energy Conservation and Sustainable Building Code (ECSBC) 2024 provisions.

The design incorporates sustainable site planning, enhanced energy efficiency, water conservation measures, use of locally sourced materials and features aimed at improving occupant health and comfort.

Accessible and inclusive design
The CGGPOA campus will feature a barrier-free environment to ensure accessibility, safety and convenience for Divyangjan (persons with disabilities), in line with applicable accessibility standards and regulations.

Employment generation
The project is expected to create significant employment opportunities during both the construction and operational phases. According to the government, construction activities are estimated to generate around 7 lakh man-days of employment annually, while the operational phase is expected to create approximately 50,000 man-days of employment per year.

Execution and funding
The project will be funded by the Government of India through budgetary support. The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs will execute the project through the Central Public Works Department (CPWD). Pre-bid activities have already commenced, and preparation of tender documents is currently underway.

The approval marks another significant step in the development of Amaravati as a modern administrative and governance hub, while strengthening the Central Government’s infrastructure presence in Andhra Pradesh.
