Hyundai Motor India Ltd (HMIL) has unveiled the first design sketches of its upcoming Intelligent SUV, Hyundai BAYON, following the announcement of the vehicle’s name.
Positioned as a global product, the BAYON is being designed around a stronger SUV identity, bold styling and urban versatility. The sketches offer an early look at Hyundai’s evolving Art of Steel design philosophy, which combines sculpted surfaces, sharp character lines and architectural proportions.
The design approach is aimed at giving the SUV a sporty and robust appearance while retaining the practicality expected of a vehicle designed for predominantly urban use.
Bold exterior takes centre stage
The front design sketch highlights a pronounced SUV stance, with a sculpted bonnet, prominent fenders and distinctive H-Edge lighting forming key elements of the vehicle’s visual identity.
The lighting signature, combined with robust lower-body elements, is intended to give the BAYON a futuristic appearance while reinforcing its SUV character.
Hyundai’s Art of Steel philosophy focuses on using the form and shaping of steel to create surfaces that convey strength, movement and character. On the BAYON, this is reflected in defined character lines, muscular proportions and carefully sculpted surfaces.
Technology-focused cabin
The interior sketch provides an early glimpse of a cabin built around technology, connectivity and intuitive interaction.
Hyundai says the interior has been conceived to bring together advanced technology, sophisticated design and seamless connectivity, with the aim of creating a premium in-cabin experience for technology-oriented urban customers.
The cabin design is positioned as a complement to the vehicle’s tougher exterior, with the company describing the concept as a high-tech interior housed within a robust exterior.
Designed for urban lifestyles
The BAYON has been conceived around the idea of bringing SUV confidence to customers who primarily drive in urban environments.
According to Hyundai, the vehicle combines SUV-inspired capability and visual appeal with the requirements of modern city mobility. Its design uses pronounced fenders, a sculpted hood, signature lighting and a robust stance to establish a distinctive identity.
Hyundai Motor Company, Senior Vice President & Head of Hyundai Design Center, Simon Loasby, said the company wanted BAYON to make a confident first impression in India.
The focus, he said, was on creating an Intelligent Utility Vehicle in which technology and thoughtful design come together for modern urban lifestyles.
“High-tech interior within a tough exterior,” Loasby said, pointing to the sculpted hood, bold fender volumes and H-Edge lighting as elements intended to give BAYON a distinctive presence.
Hyundai BAYON builds anticipation
While the design sketches do not reveal the full production specification, they establish the core visual direction of the upcoming SUV.
With its combination of sharp surfaces, muscular proportions, distinctive lighting and a technology-oriented cabin, the BAYON is set to add another model to Hyundai’s SUV portfolio in India.
More details on the vehicle, including its specifications, powertrain, features and launch plans, are expected to be disclosed by Hyundai closer to its market introduction.
