IHH Healthcare To Raise Fortis Stake To 51%, Target 10,000 Beds By 2031

CW Bureau ·

IHH Healthcare, a leading multinational healthcare provider and one of the largest foreign direct investors in India’s hospital sector, has reiterated its commitment to expanding its presence in the country.

The company plans to increase its stake in Fortis Healthcare to 51% over the next three to five years, further integrate its Fortis and Gleneagles platforms and expand its capacity to approximately 10,000 beds by 2031.

Company reaffirms India commitment

IHH said India remains a key strategic market and that it intends to deepen its presence and increase investments despite challenges arising from the ongoing legal matter.

“We take pride in our contribution to the advancement of healthcare in India through sustained investment, responsible stewardship, and a strong commitment to patient care and governance excellence,” IHH said.

NTK appeals Tokyo court judgment

Northern TK Venture Pte Ltd (NTK), an indirect wholly owned subsidiary of IHH Healthcare, has filed an appeal with the Tokyo High Court against the judgment issued by the Tokyo District Court on September 10, 2026.

Having assessed the judgment, NTK said it concluded that the matter warrants appellate review by a higher court and has exercised its right of appeal.

IHH cites losses from approval delays

IHH said it has suffered losses arising from delays in obtaining mandatory tender offer approvals required for its acquisition of Fortis Healthcare.

The company said the delays occurred in the context of a dispute between Daiichi Sankyo and certain judgment debtors, to which IHH was not a party.

Fortis acquisition followed regulated process

IHH said its acquisition of Fortis Healthcare in 2018 was undertaken through a transparent, public and fully regulated process.

The transaction received the necessary corporate, shareholder and regulatory approvals, including those required under the Competition Commission of India and SEBI takeover regulations.

Focus on long-term healthcare expansion

IHH said it remains committed to India and plans to expand its healthcare footprint through increased investment, integration of its hospital platforms and additional capacity.

The company’s planned expansion is aimed at supporting the growing demand for healthcare services in India while strengthening its long-term presence in the country.
