Godrej Agrovet Ltd has inaugurated India’s first integrated oil palm complex in Khammam, Telangana, marking a significant milestone in the country’s efforts to boost domestic edible oil production and reduce dependence on imports.
The facility, developed with a cumulative investment of ₹300 crore, integrates the entire oil palm value chain, from seed production and genetics to nursery operations, research and development, processing and an upcoming state-of-the-art refinery, at a single location.
Part of the Godrej Industries Group, Godrej Agrovet is among India’s largest farm-to-protein companies and a key player in the country’s oil palm sector.
Integrated value chain to support oil palm expansion
The Khammam complex includes a seed garden developed in partnership with leading global companies, bringing advanced oil palm genetics to India.
The company said its dedicated R&D centre will focus on developing hybrid planting material suited to Telangana’s climatic conditions, helping improve productivity and supporting sustainable cultivation.
The integrated model is expected to provide greater control over quality, consistency and efficiency across the oil palm value chain.
Processing capacity to double
The complex houses Telangana’s first privately operated oil palm mill, which has commenced operations with an initial processing capacity of 30 tonnes per hour.
The facility has been designed for future expansion to 60 tonnes per hour, in line with the company’s plan to increase its oil palm plantation area in Telangana from 10,000 hectares to 30,000 hectares by 2030.
An advanced edible oil refinery, currently under development, will complete the seed-to-refinery ecosystem.
Support for farmers
The complex also features a Samadhan Centre, Godrej Agrovet’s farmer support initiative that provides advisory services, quality farm inputs and technical assistance to oil palm growers.
The company expects the integrated ecosystem to improve productivity, strengthen farmer incomes and accelerate adoption of scientific cultivation practices.
Boost for Telangana’s edible oil mission
Government of Telangana Deputy Chief Minister and Minister for Finance & Planning and Energy Bhatti Vikramarka Mallu said the integrated complex represents a major milestone for the state’s oil palm mission and its ambition to emerge as a leading edible oil producer.
He said Telangana’s oil palm programme is improving the livelihoods of farming households while contributing to India’s edible oil security, adding that Godrej Agrovet’s integrated seed-to-refinery model would help accelerate this vision.
Help building a self-reliant edible oil economy
Godrej Agrovet Chairperson Designate Burjis Godrej said the project is more than an infrastructure investment and represents the company’s contribution to building a self-reliant edible oil economy.
He said the country’s first integrated oil palm complex sets a benchmark for sustainable oil palm development and reinforces the company’s long-term commitment to strengthening food security and supporting farmers.
Godrej Agrovet Managing Director & CEO Sunil Kataria said the company chose to invest in building capabilities before pursuing large-scale expansion.
He said integrating the entire oil palm value chain at one location enhances quality and operational efficiency while reflecting the company’s confidence in Telangana’s potential to become a key contributor to India’s edible oil security.
