DIKSHA Learning Platform: How It Is Changing School Education In India

CW Bureau ·

Digital Infrastructure for Knowledge Sharing (DIKSHA), the Ministry of Education’s flagship digital learning platform, is emerging as the backbone of India’s school education ecosystem by providing curriculum-linked digital content, personalised learning experiences and teacher training through a single national platform.

Launched in 2017, DIKSHA serves as the digital foundation of the PM e-Vidya initiative and is positioned as the country’s ‘One Nation, One Digital Platform for school education. Developed by the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) in collaboration with the Central Institute of Educational Technology (CIET), the open-source platform offers multilingual digital learning resources for students and teachers across the K-12 spectrum.

Comprehensive digital learning ecosystem
DIKSHA provides curriculum-aligned digital learning material spanning foundational literacy and numeracy (FLN) to senior secondary education. The platform has been designed to support diverse state education boards and has been widely adopted across almost all states and Union Territories due to its flexible and customisable architecture.

The platform enables students to access digital lessons, practice exercises, assessments and interactive learning resources while allowing teachers to utilise classroom-ready content and professional development modules.

Interactive technologies enhance learning
A key differentiator for DIKSHA is its use of immersive digital technologies to improve classroom engagement and conceptual understanding.

The platform hosts media-rich educational content, including 2D and 3D animations, augmented reality (AR) experiences, simulations, virtual laboratories and Indian Sign Language videos. QR-coded Energised Textbooks further bridge physical and digital learning by linking NCERT textbooks with videos, interactive content and teacher resources.

DIKSHA also supports inclusive education through accessibility features such as DAISY (Digital Accessible Information System) formats, text-to-speech functionality and Indian Sign Language content for differently-abled learners.

Personalised learning and teacher upskilling
The platform leverages technology to support personalised learning through unlimited practice questions, competency-based assessments, adaptive evaluation tools and detailed performance analytics that help identify learning gaps and enable timely remediation.

For educators, DIKSHA serves as a national professional development platform through NISHTHA and state-specific Teacher Professional Development (TPD) programmes, offering self-paced, certified training modules to enhance teaching capabilities.

Its integrated ecosystem combines content creation, curation, delivery and analytics, enabling data-driven decision-making while supporting the objectives of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

Driving India’s digital education agenda
As India accelerates digital transformation across public services, DIKSHA is playing a critical role in making quality education more accessible, inclusive and technology-driven.

By connecting students, teachers, educational institutions and digital resources on a unified platform, DIKSHA helps overcome geographical and linguistic barriers while expanding access to high-quality learning content across the country.

With continued investments in digital innovation, interactive learning tools and inclusive technologies, the platform is strengthening India’s education ecosystem and supporting the country’s vision of building a future-ready, digitally empowered learning environment.
