TAFE Motors and Tractors Ltd (TMTL), a wholly owned subsidiary of Tractors and Farm Equipment Ltd (TAFE), has inaugurated a new DEUTZ engine production facility at its existing manufacturing plant in Alwar, Rajasthan, marking the first manufacturing collaboration between the two companies in India. The facility will manufacture DEUTZ-licensed 2.2-litre and 2.9-litre engines for domestic as well as international markets.
The facility was inaugurated by Rajasthan’s Minister for Industry & Commerce, Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore, who said the investment reinforces the state’s emergence as a preferred manufacturing destination while contributing to the vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat.
Industry 4.0-enabled manufacturing
The new plant has an annual production capacity of 35,000 engines and 50,000 sub-assemblies. It incorporates Industry 4.0-enabled manufacturing systems with end-to-end manufacturing execution system (MES) integration and digital connectivity across the production process. The facility also features advanced automation, robotics, collaborative robots (cobots), vision systems, a state-of-the-art engine testing centre and an advanced quality laboratory with complete digital traceability to ensure global quality standards.
Capacity expansion plans
TAFE Chairman & Managing Director Mallika Srinivasan said the inauguration marks a defining milestone in the company’s growth journey. She noted that TAFE and the Amalgamations Group together are among India’s largest engine manufacturing ecosystems, with production capacity projected to expand from 4 lakh engines annually to 5.5 lakh engines by 2030.
She said the partnership combines German engineering expertise with India’s manufacturing strengths and is expected to catalyse growth in Rajasthan’s engineering ecosystem while enhancing the state’s position as a manufacturing hub.
Focus on global markets
TAFE Vice Chairman Dr Lakshmi Venu said the facility reflects the company’s commitment to advanced manufacturing, operational excellence and globally benchmarked quality systems to address evolving domestic and international demand. She added that the plant has a 40% women workforce, underlining TAFE’s focus on gender diversity.
TAFE Chief Executive Officer Sandeep Sinha said the highly automated production facility will enable the company to manufacture world-class engines at scale while delivering value to customers in India and overseas markets.
Strategic global partnership
DEUTZ Chief Executive Officer Dr Sebastian Schulte described the inauguration as an important milestone in the cooperation between the two companies, saying it reflects the commitment of both teams in translating their shared vision into industrial reality.
Founded in 1864 in Cologne, Germany, DEUTZ is one of the world’s oldest engine manufacturers and provides engines and power solutions for construction equipment, agricultural machinery, material handling equipment, stationary power applications and defence. The new Alwar facility is expected to strengthen TAFE Motors’ ambition of becoming a global engine manufacturing hub while expanding the availability of advanced engines for domestic and export markets.
