VA Tech Wabag Ltd, a multinational water technology company, has signed a mega contract valued at over ₹1,000 crore for the Doha SWRO Desalination Plant with Recarbonation System – Stage II in Kuwait, marking its entry into the country and strengthening its presence across the GCC region.
The order was awarded in June 2026 by the Ministry of Electricity, Water & Renewable Energy, Kuwait, and the signing of the contract formally pave the way for commencement of the project.
First project in Kuwait
The project will be undertaken on a Design, Build and Operate basis by a Wabag-led unincorporated joint venture with Heavy Engineering Industries & Shipbuilding Company K.S.C.
The 60 MIGD, or approximately 272 MLD, plant will use Sea Water Reverse Osmosis technology along with a Recarbonation System, with construction scheduled for 36 months followed by a five-year operation and maintenance period.
Solar power supports sustainability
On-site solar photovoltaic systems will meet part of the plant’s energy requirements, supporting Kuwait’s clean-energy objectives and helping reduce the facility’s carbon footprint.
The project is expected to strengthen Wabag’s capabilities in delivering advanced desalination infrastructure while contributing to Kuwait’s long-term water security.
Wabag expands GCC presence
