Sigma And Munitions India Signs Pact For Indigenous Artillery Fuzes

CW Bureau ·

Sigma Advanced Systems Ltd, a defence technology and precision engineering company, has signed an exclusive memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Munitions India Ltd (MIL) for the integration, indigenous manufacturing and supply of 155 mm artillery course correction fuzes (CCF).

The agreement covers associated components, subsystems and technologies. The collaboration aims to strengthen India’s indigenous capabilities in precision-guided artillery ammunition and support critical programmes of the Indian Armed Forces.

Partnership targets indigenous manufacturing

The collaboration will combine Sigma’s engineering, programme execution and technology capabilities with MIL’s established ammunition manufacturing infrastructure. It will focus on technology transfer, qualification, localisation and domestic integration of advanced course correction solutions.

The programme will leverage the Course Correction Guidance Kit, a mature solution currently used by international customers, as part of the technology collaboration. The initiative is intended to support the evolving requirements of the Indian military while strengthening domestic defence manufacturing.

Technology aims to improve accuracy

Course correction technology enables artillery projectiles to adjust their trajectories during flight, helping improve accuracy and operational effectiveness. Developing domestic capabilities in this segment could also reduce reliance on imported solutions and strengthen India’s defence technology ecosystem.

For Sigma, the collaboration represents a move further up the defence value chain, extending its capabilities from precision engineering and subsystem manufacturing towards the development and integration of advanced defence systems.

MIL brings ammunition expertise

Munitions India Ltd, one of India’s largest defence public sector enterprises, brings extensive experience in ammunition and explosives manufacturing, established production facilities and longstanding engagement with the Indian Armed Forces.

The partnership seeks to combine these strengths with Sigma’s engineering capabilities and technology expertise to establish a domestic framework for next-generation course correction solutions. It also aims to progressively enhance indigenous content, technical skills and manufacturing capacity.

Management comment

“We see this collaboration as an opportunity to contribute to the evolving requirements of the Indian Armed Forces while strengthening India’s position as a centre for advanced defence manufacturing,” Sigma Advanced Systems Ltd, Chief Executive Officer, Sunil Kalidindi, said.

The companies aim to develop indigenous capabilities that can support ongoing critical military programmes and create a platform for integrating advanced defence technologies with Indian manufacturing.
