Maruti Suzuki India Ltd recorded a 24.4% year-on-year increase in total sales to 2,36,013 units in September 2026, with a sharp rise in utility vehicle sales driving domestic passenger vehicle volumes higher.
The automaker sold 1,89,665 units in September 2025. The increase of 46,348 units came despite a 44.3% decline in sales to other original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and relatively modest 4.8% growth in exports.
Utility vehicles emerge as the biggest growth driver
Utility vehicle sales jumped 62.1% to 78,911 units in September 2026 from 48,695 units a year earlier, an increase of 30,216 units.
This was the largest absolute increase among Maruti Suzuki’s individual vehicle categories and accounted for about 65% of the company’s overall 46,348-unit increase in total sales.
Passenger car sales also registered strong growth, rising 24% to 91,887 units from 74,090 units, an increase of 17,797 units.
Vans recorded a more modest 10% increase to 11,040 units from 10,035 units. The category-wise sales figures cover Maruti Suzuki’s mini, compact and mid-size passenger cars, utility vehicles and vans.
Passenger vehicle sales rise 36.9%
The combined domestic passenger vehicle business comprising passenger cars, utility vehicles and vans grew 36.9% to 1,81,838 units in September from 1,32,820 units in the year-ago month.
The increase of 49,018 units in passenger vehicle sales was greater than the 46,348-unit increase in Maruti Suzuki’s overall sales because sales to other OEMs declined during the month.
Including light commercial vehicles, domestic PV and LCV sales increased 36.5% to 1,85,252 units from 1,35,711 units. LCV sales, comprising the Super Carry, rose 18.1% to 3,414 units.
OEM sales decline offsets part of domestic growth
Sales to other OEMs fell 44.3% to 6,542 units in September from 11,750 units in September 2025, a decline of 5,208 units.
As a result, total domestic sales including passenger vehicles, LCVs and OEM sales rose 30.1% to 1,91,794 units from 1,47,461 units.
Exports increased 4.8% to 44,219 units from 42,204 units, adding 2,015 units to overall sales growth.
Six-month sales cross 1.37 million units
The stronger September performance takes Maruti Suzuki’s total sales for April-September FY2026-27 to 13,79,378 units, up 27.9% from 10,78,735 units in the corresponding period of FY2025-26.
That represents an increase of 3,00,643 units in the first six months of the financial year. Domestic sales including OEM volumes rose 31.6% to 11,46,523 units from 8,71,276 units, while exports increased 12.2% to 2,32,855 units.
Utility vehicles gain further ground
The six-month numbers underline the increasing contribution of utility vehicles to Maruti Suzuki’s sales growth.
Utility vehicle sales rose 43.6% to 4,55,692 units during April-September FY2026-27 from 3,17,379 units, an increase of 1,38,313 units.
Passenger car sales increased 33.8% to 5,51,094 units from 4,11,801 units, adding 1,39,293 units. Vans rose 10.8% to 73,454 units from 66,266 units.
Together, the three passenger vehicle categories reached 10,80,240 units in April-September, up 35.8% from 7,95,446 units.
Exports provide additional growth
Maruti Suzuki’s exports grew by 25,396 units during the first six months, rising 12.2% to 2,32,855 units.
The export increase was considerably smaller than the 2,75,247-unit increase in total domestic sales, indicating that the first-half growth was primarily driven by the domestic market.
Overall, the company added more than 3 lakh vehicles to its total sales in April-September compared with the corresponding period of the previous financial year.
