Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd (APSEZ) is launching a dedicated Empty Container Yard (ECY) with integrated warehousing at Mundra Port to improve container turnaround and reduce logistics costs.
The facility will provide end-to-end services across the empty container lifecycle, including storage, maintenance, inspection and movement of containers to exporters and container freight stations (CFSs).
Mundra handles major container volumes
Mundra Port handles nearly 35% of India’s container trade, making it the country’s largest container-handling port. The volume of empty containers handled at the port is estimated at around 1.6 million TEUs annually.
APSEZ commanded a 45.5% share of India’s container market in FY26. Under its Ambition 2031 roadmap, the company plans to add more than 6 million TEUs of container handling capacity over the next five years.
ECY to streamline container movement
Adani Ports, Chief Executive Officer, Ashwani Gupta, said, “The dedicated ECY at Mundra will enhance efficiency across the container ecosystem by enabling faster turnaround times, reducing unnecessary container movements, and optimizing logistics costs.”

Facility integrated with Mundra SEZ
By bringing empty container operations within the Mundra Port SEZ, the facility will enable closer coordination among Customs authorities, shipping lines, terminal operators and transporters.
On-site operations are expected to strengthen safety, security and regulatory compliance while improving the use of existing infrastructure.

APSEZ said the initiative aligns with the government’s focus on developing efficient, technology-enabled logistics systems and improving ease of doing business.
The dedicated yard is expected to strengthen Mundra’s role as a key gateway for India’s international trade while supporting the broader logistics requirements of exporters, shipping lines and other customers.
