Air India will begin operating non-stop daily flights between Delhi and Toronto from August 1, 2026, deploying its brand-new Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner on the route and eliminating the current technical fuel stop in Vienna.
The move will reduce the journey time from Delhi to Toronto by nearly three hours, bringing the total flight duration down from about 20 hours to around 17 hours, subject to the availability of suitable airspace. The return Toronto-Delhi service will continue to operate non-stop with a flying time of up to 16 hours.
The airline will also restore the route to daily operations, up from the current five weekly flights after temporarily reducing frequencies during June and July due to elevated fuel prices and geopolitical developments.
Faster travel, enhanced connectivity
The deployment of Air India’s factory-fresh Boeing 787-9 aircraft marks another milestone in the airline’s ongoing fleet modernisation programme and significantly upgrades the travel experience for passengers flying between India and Canada.
“Canada is home to one of the world’s largest and most vibrant Indian diaspora communities, and Toronto has long been one of Air India’s most important international gateways,” said Air India Chief Executive Officer & Managing Director Campbell Wilson.
“As we continue transforming Air India into a world-class global airline, we are steadily expanding the availability of our newest aircraft and latest cabin products across key international routes. The introduction of our new Boeing 787-9 on the Delhi-Toronto route brings a significantly enhanced travel experience while extending our most premium offerings across North America,” he added.
Premium Economy debuts on the route
For the first time, passengers travelling between Delhi and Toronto will have access to Premium Economy, providing additional space, comfort and upgraded services on the ultra-long-haul route.
The airline’s new Boeing 787-9 features a three-class configuration with 30 Business Class private suites, 28 Premium Economy seats and 238 Economy Class seats.
New onboard experience
The latest-generation Dreamliner introduces a range of premium features across all cabins. Business Class passengers will enjoy fully enclosed private suites with direct aisle access, 79-inch fully flat beds, wireless charging, larger personal storage and 17-inch 4K QLED HDR entertainment screens.
Premium Economy offers wider seats in a 2-3-2 configuration, 38-inch seat pitch, adjustable leg and calf rests, enhanced recline and 13.3-inch 4K QLED HDR touchscreens.
Economy Class passengers will benefit from ergonomically designed seats, 11.6-inch 4K QLED HDR entertainment screens and integrated holders for personal electronic devices.
Upgraded entertainment and dining
The aircraft is equipped with the Thales AVANT Up inflight entertainment system, providing access to more than 3,000 hours of entertainment content through high-definition touchscreens. Passengers will also have Bluetooth audio connectivity, USB-A and USB-C charging ports, AC power outlets and an upgraded user interface.
The cabins also feature mood lighting inspired by Indian wellness traditions, while the onboard service has been refreshed with redesigned menus offering Indian and international cuisine, premium tableware, plush bedding and upgraded amenity kits.

The Delhi-Toronto upgrade forms part of Air India’s broader strategy to deploy its newest aircraft on key long-haul international routes as it modernises its fleet and enhances customer experience.
The airline said bookings for the upgraded service are now open through its website, mobile app, contact centre and authorised travel agents worldwide.
