Indofast Energy, India’s battery-swapping solutions provider, has partnered with GLIDA, formerly Fortum Charge & Drive India, to co-locate battery-swapping stations at GLIDA’s established EV charging sites across the country.
The partnership will initially cover 10 Quick Interchange Stations (QIS) across GLIDA sites in Chennai, Bengaluru and Hyderabad. The companies plan to scale the network to 50 sites and 100 QIS over the next 12 months, strengthening the availability of battery-swapping infrastructure in high-footfall markets.
The collaboration brings charging and battery-swapping infrastructure under one roof, creating integrated EV energy destinations where users across vehicle categories can access multiple energy solutions at a single location.
Charging and swapping under one roof
The partnership combines GLIDA’s strategically located sites and reliable power infrastructure with Indofast Energy’s battery-swapping network and technology platform.
For delivery riders and fleet operators, the arrangement is expected to provide quick-turnaround battery swapping at established and accessible locations, helping maximise vehicle uptime and improve operational efficiency.
GLIDA’s pan-India network will also provide Indofast Energy with ready-to-deploy locations, allowing the company to accelerate the expansion of its Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) network into high-demand markets.
The companies see the co-location model as a way to create comprehensive energy hubs capable of serving different EV segments, ranging from vehicles requiring conventional charging to those using battery-swapping technology.
Focus on high-utilisation locations
The partnership is aimed at addressing one of the key challenges in scaling EV infrastructure, access to strategically located sites with dependable power connectivity and reliable operations.
Indofast Energy will leverage GLIDA’s existing infrastructure to deploy swapping stations more rapidly, while GLIDA will expand the range of energy solutions available at its charging locations.
Indofast Energy, Interim CEO, Subhash Bhat, said the partnership with GLIDA would help the company rapidly expand its Battery-as-a-Service network by leveraging well-connected, power-ready sites.
He said the company aims to scale to more than 100 Quick Interchange Stations across 50 sites within the next year, adding that every new deployment would strengthen the energy infrastructure required by India’s growing electric mobility ecosystem.
GLIDA, Managing Director & CEO, Deepak Paliwal, said the partnership would enable charging and rapid battery swapping to coexist at the company’s locations, allowing different vehicle categories to be served from a single site.
He said the key challenge in building EV infrastructure was not technology alone, but securing land in the right locations, dependable grid connectivity and reliable day-to-day operations.
According to Paliwal, the partnership would help create future-ready mobility infrastructure and make more efficient use of urban space by enabling more vehicles to be electrified per square foot.
Network reaches 24 cities
The partnership adds to Indofast Energy’s existing battery-swapping network of 1,900 swap stations across 24 cities. The company said its network has enabled more than 2 billion kilometres of clean mobility.
Indofast Energy has been expanding its network through partnerships with original equipment manufacturers, fleet operators and infrastructure providers as it seeks to strengthen battery swapping as an alternative energy solution for electric mobility.
The collaboration with GLIDA is expected to accelerate this expansion by combining existing charging infrastructure with battery-swapping capabilities, particularly in densely populated and high-utilisation urban markets.
