Aequs Belagavi SEZ Emerges As One Of India’s Greenest Industrial Clusters

CW Bureau ·

Aequs Infra said its Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in Belagavi has emerged as one of India’s most advanced green manufacturing ecosystems, with close to 100% of its energy requirements being met through renewable sources.

The facility, also known as the Belagavi Aerospace Cluster (BAC), is India’s first notified precision engineering and aerospace cluster and has established a benchmark for sustainable industrial infrastructure through large-scale adoption of green energy.

The 250-acre-plus campus meets the energy needs of its units through a combination of rooftop solar installations, open-access renewable energy sourced from third-party providers and green power supplied by the State Electricity Board.

According to the company, the integrated energy framework has positioned BAC among a select group of industrial manufacturing clusters in India that have nearly completed the transition to renewable energy at scale.

Focus on sustainable industrial infrastructure
The cluster houses more than 35 customers, including multinational and Indian companies serving some of the largest names in the global aerospace industry.

A licensed power distribution network within the campus enables efficient and reliable power delivery while helping companies lower their carbon footprint. The infrastructure model also delivers operational efficiencies and cost savings of over 30% for units operating within the cluster, Aequs Infra said.

Aequs Infra CEO Shyam Kalyanasundaram said, “At Aequs Infra, sustainability is embedded into the way we design and operate industrial ecosystems. The Aequs SEZ at Belagavi demonstrates how large-scale manufacturing can successfully integrate renewable energy while delivering reliability, operational efficiency, and cost competitiveness to customers. As one of the few industrial clusters in the country to have achieved renewable energy adoption at this scale, we believe this model can serve as a blueprint for future-ready industrial infrastructure in India.”

Marking World Environment Day, Kalyanasundaram said sustainability initiatives must be translated into measurable outcomes that create long-term value for businesses and communities.

Integrated ecosystem reduces carbon footprint
Aequs Infra said the Belagavi Aerospace Cluster’s ecosystem model integrates the entire manufacturing value chain, from raw materials to finished products, within a single location.

This approach significantly reduces logistics requirements, cutting the distance travelled by aerospace components from a typical 5,000 kilometres to less than 500 metres. The company said the model substantially lowers carbon emissions per component and makes BAC a unique aerospace manufacturing ecosystem globally.

Expansion across industrial clusters
The company has adopted a similar sustainability-led approach at its industrial clusters in Hubballi and Koppal, which host India’s first durable goods cluster and toy manufacturing cluster, respectively.

Aequs Infra provides industrial infrastructure solutions for manufacturing, engineering, logistics and e-commerce businesses through ready-built and built-to-suit facilities. The company currently manages industrial clusters in Belagavi, Hubballi and Koppal and is expanding its footprint into Tier I and Tier II cities, including Hosur, Bengaluru and Chennai.
