Hitachi Energy India has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Government of Tamil Nadu to invest approximately ₹1,000 crore over the next three to five years to expand its manufacturing and research capabilities in the state.
The MoU was signed in the presence of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay. The proposed investment is expected to generate around 1,000 high-value technical jobs while strengthening Tamil Nadu’s position as a global hub for advanced power technologies.
Investment to boost manufacturing and innovation
As part of the investment, Hitachi Energy India will expand its Global Technology and Innovation Center (GTIC) in Chennai and establish a new manufacturing line for semiconductor-based HVAC-to-HVDC conversion equipment.
The company said the investment is aimed at supporting the growing demand for advanced power transmission technologies while enhancing its engineering and manufacturing capabilities in India.
Building on existing presence
Hitachi Energy India already has a significant footprint in Tamil Nadu through its Global Technology and Innovation Center in Chennai and its HVDC valve manufacturing facility in Chengalpattu.
The latest investment is expected to strengthen the company’s role in developing next-generation power technologies while reinforcing Tamil Nadu’s importance in its global manufacturing and innovation network.
Supporting clean energy ambitions
The investment aligns with Tamil Nadu’s focus on clean energy, advanced manufacturing and deep technology development.
According to the company, the expansion will further strengthen the state’s leadership in innovation, engineering excellence and next-generation energy solutions while supporting India’s transition towards a more resilient and sustainable power infrastructure.
