Hyundai Motor India Ltd (HMIL) is assessing the impact of a fire incident at one of its supplier facilities in Tamil Nadu, with the company indicating that the incident could temporarily disrupt production operations.

In a stock exchange filing, the automaker said a fire broke out at a manufacturing facility operated by Mobis India Ltd in Irrungattukottai, Kancheepuram district, on the afternoon of May 31, 2026.

No casualties reported
The company said no fatalities have been reported following the incident. The affected Mobis India facility supplies audio components and certain other automotive parts to Hyundai Motor India, making it a key part of the company’s supply chain network.

Production disruption likely
Hyundai said the incident is expected to result in a temporary disruption to its production activities as the extent of the damage is being assessed.

“The company and Mobis teams are working closely to assess the situation and extent of damage to the Mobis facility,” HMIL said in its filing.

Alternative sourcing options being explored
To mitigate the impact, Hyundai said it is actively exploring alternative sourcing arrangements and supply continuity measures.

The company noted that efforts are underway to minimise operational disruptions and ensure business continuity while assessments continue at the supplier’s manufacturing facility.

Dealer inventory to support demand
Despite the potential production impact, Hyundai said it currently has sufficient vehicle inventory across its dealer network to meet customer demand.

The company indicated that existing stock levels should help cushion the immediate impact of any supply-side disruption while recovery and contingency plans are put in place.

The incident highlights the growing importance of supply-chain resilience in the automotive sector, where disruptions at critical supplier facilities can have a cascading effect on vehicle production schedules.
