Switch Mobility, part of the Hinduja Group, has unveiled new EiV9 electric bus at Prawaas 5.0, strengthening its portfolio in the rapidly expanding electric commercial vehicle market.
Purpose-built for city transit, employee transportation and school mobility, the 9-metre electric bus has been designed to deliver higher operational efficiency, enhanced passenger comfort and lower total cost of ownership for fleet operators.
Eyeing strong market growth
The company expects robust demand in the segment, with the 9-metre electric bus market projected to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of nearly 34% by FY30.
The EiV9 has been developed to help fleet operators transition to electric mobility through improved energy efficiency, lower operating costs and enhanced reliability.
Built for operational efficiency
The EiV9 features a lightweight architecture and an advanced electric driveline aimed at maximising energy utilisation.
Operators can choose from multiple battery pack configurations based on route requirements, while regenerative braking and dual-gun CCS2 fast charging help improve vehicle uptime.
Powering the bus is a permanent magnet variable reluctance (PMVR) motor capable of producing up to 213 kW of peak power, offering smooth acceleration and dependable performance across varied operating conditions.
Focus on passenger comfort and safety
The electric bus comes equipped with front and rear air suspension, a spacious cabin, ergonomic seating and individual USB charging ports for passengers.
For employee transportation, the bus also offers pushback seats to enhance comfort during longer journeys.
On the safety front, the EiV9 is fitted with a Fire Detection and Suppression System (FDSS), disc brakes on both front and rear axles and an electric architecture designed to ensure reliable operations.
#SwitchKaro campaign launched
Alongside the vehicle launch Switch Mobility introduced its #SwitchKaro campaign to encourage businesses, fleet owners and transport operators to accelerate the adoption of electric mobility.
The campaign highlights the commercial advantages of electric buses, including lower running and maintenance costs, improved profitability and zero tailpipe emissions.
EiV12 Intercity also showcased
The company also showcased an upgraded version of its EiV12 Intercity electric bus designed for long-distance travel. The bus features premium reclining seats, individual multi-port charging points, floor-mounted lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries, front and rear air suspension, dual-gun DC fast charging and SWITCH iON, the company’s connected vehicle platform that enables real-time diagnostics, remote monitoring and digital battery management.
Important milestone
Switch Mobility CEO Ganesh Mani said the launch of the EiV9 marks an important milestone in the company’s growth strategy as it strengthens its presence across public and institutional mobility segments.
He said the new electric bus has been purpose-built to deliver greater efficiency, superior passenger comfort, advanced safety and lower operating costs while helping customers transition to cleaner transportation with stronger business economics. He added that the new #SwitchKaro campaign reflects the company’s belief that sustainable mobility should make both environmental and commercial sense.
