EKA Mobility, an Indian electric commercial vehicle manufacturer, has rolled out its 1,000th small commercial vehicle (SCV) from its manufacturing facility in Chakan, Pune, marking a key milestone in the company’s growth journey and India’s broader transition towards zero-emission logistics.
The achievement comes as adoption of electric commercial vehicles gains momentum across sectors such as e-commerce, FMCG distribution, passenger mobility and last-mile logistics.
Landmark delivery marks production milestone
The milestone vehicle, an EKA 6S electric three-wheeler, was handed over to the Dagdusheth Halwai Ganpati Trust, a Pune-based charitable institution known for its social and community initiatives.
The EKA 6S is positioned as India’s first steering-wheel passenger electric three-wheeler with a driver-plus-six seating configuration. The trust plans to deploy the vehicle as part of its community service operations.
In another symbolic handover, the company delivered an EKA 3S electric three-wheeler to Marisa Gerards, Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to India, highlighting EKA Mobility’s growing international partnerships and its strategic association with Netherlands-based VDL Groep.
Manufacturing capacity expansion underway
The Chakan facility serves as EKA Mobility’s dedicated manufacturing hub for small commercial vehicles and trucks. The plant currently has an installed production capacity of 24,000 commercial vehicles annually and employs more than 1,000 people.
The facility also houses a research and development centre staffed by over 400 engineers and designers.
As part of its EvolutioNARI initiative, the company has established an all-women-led assembly line for SCVs, reflecting its focus on workforce diversity and inclusion in manufacturing.
Betting on India’s EV commercial vehicle opportunity
The company is among the beneficiaries of the Government of India’s Auto Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme and is backed by global and domestic investors, including VDL Groep, Mitsui & Co., NIIF India-Japan Fund and Enam Holdings.
EKA Mobility currently operates manufacturing facilities in Koregaon Bhima and Chakan, Pune, while a new 47-acre plant in Pithampur is under development to support future growth.
Once fully operational, the company’s manufacturing network is expected to support annual production capacities of 15,000 buses, 24,000 SCVs and 4,000 trucks.
Not merely a production number
EKA Mobility Founder & Chairman DrSudhir Mehta said, “The 1,000th SCV rolling off our Chakan facility is not merely a production number; it is proof of what Indian engineering, innovation, and determination can achieve. It reflects years of perseverance and a shared belief that India can emerge as a global leader in sustainable mobility through world-class products designed and manufactured at home.”
He added that the milestone, achieved on World Environment Day, reinforces the company’s commitment to helping businesses reduce environmental impact through sustainable mobility solutions.
Mehta further said, “All our manufacturing plants are smart, lean, and technology-driven facilities built to scale rapidly. As India’s electric commercial vehicle market accelerates, EKA is perfectly positioned to be the preferred partner for operators seeking reliable, zero-emission vehicles.”
Building a full-stack electric CV ecosystem
EKA Mobility said it remains focused on creating a comprehensive electric commercial vehicle ecosystem spanning three-wheelers, SCVs, buses and trucks. The company positions itself as one of the few domestic manufacturers offering a complete range of electric commercial mobility solutions designed, engineered and manufactured in India, in line with the Government’s Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative.
