L&T Wins Ultra-Mega Offshore Wind Framework TenneT Deal For Europe

CW Bureau ·

Engineering and infrastructure major Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has secured an ultra-mega framework cooperation agreement with Dutch-German transmission system operator TenneT for its ambitious 2 GW offshore wind programme, strengthening the Indian company’s position in Europe’s fast-growing offshore renewable energy market.

The agreement, signed by an L&T-Hitachi Energy consortium, covers six projects in principle and future opportunities under TenneT’s high-voltage direct current (HVDC) programme, aimed at accelerating the integration of offshore renewable energy into Europe’s electricity grid.

As part of the programme, the consortium will continue work on the ongoing IJmuiden Ver Alpha and Nederwiek 1 projects in the Netherlands, while also commencing execution of Nederwiek 3 in the Netherlands and LanWin 5 in Germany. Together, these projects will provide a cumulative transmission capacity of 8 GW operating at 525 kV, enabling renewable power generated in the North Sea to be transmitted efficiently to onshore grids.

Offshore EPC scope
Under the engineering, procurement, construction and installation (EPCI) contract, L&T will execute the offshore converter platforms and related infrastructure, while Hitachi Energy will supply its HVDC Light® technology for efficient power conversion and transmission.

The companies said the partnership combines L&T’s offshore engineering and project execution capabilities with Hitachi Energy’s advanced transmission technology to deliver reliable HVDC infrastructure supporting Europe’s decarbonisation and renewable energy goals.

Strengthening global offshore presence
L&T said its offshore wind business is supported by engineering centres in India and Sharjah, strategic global partnerships, an established supply chain and modular fabrication facilities at Kattupalli, Tamil Nadu, enabling the execution of complex offshore structures to global standards.

The company described the agreement as a landmark programme that further strengthens its international footprint and reinforces its position in developing sustainable offshore energy infrastructure for a net-zero future.

L&T classifies an Ultra-Mega order as one valued at more than ₹15,000 crore, although the company has not disclosed the value of this framework agreement.
