Apple Pumps In ₹100 Cr To Expand Renewable Energy Capacity In India

CW Bureau ·

Iconic smartphone maker Apple has announced a series of sustainability-focused initiatives in India, including a partnership with renewable energy developer CleanMax to expand renewable energy infrastructure across the country.

The initiatives are aimed at accelerating Apple’s goal of becoming carbon neutral across its entire footprint by 2030, while also strengthening efforts to reduce plastic pollution and promote green entrepreneurship in India.

₹100 cr investment in renewable energy
As part of the partnership, Apple will make an initial investment of ₹100 crore to support the development of more than 150 megawatts of new renewable energy capacity in India. The capacity is estimated to generate enough electricity to power nearly 150,000 Indian households annually, with scope for further expansion in the coming years.

The partnership is expected to strengthen Apple’s ongoing efforts to scale renewable energy adoption across its supply chain operations in India.

Apple had earlier collaborated with CleanMax on rooftop solar projects that helped power the company’s offices and retail stores in India entirely through renewable energy sources.

Focus on circular waste management
Alongside its clean energy push, Apple is also expanding efforts to tackle plastic pollution in partnership with WWF-India.

The initiative builds on WWF-India’s collaboration with waste-management organisation Saahas Zero Waste in Goa, which established traceable recycling and waste recovery systems aimed at preventing plastic leakage into ecosystems.

With Apple’s support, the programme is now being expanded to newer regions, including Coimbatore, in collaboration with local authorities, communities, and waste workers. The initiative seeks to strengthen local waste infrastructure and governance while enabling responsible material recovery at scale.

Proud to expand efforts to invest in India
Apple’s Vice President of Environment and Supply Chain Innovation, Sarah Chandler said, “At Apple, our commitment to the environment is also a driving force for innovation, across the company and around the world. We’re proud to expand our efforts to invest in India’s clean energy economy and protect the country’s precious natural resources.”

Long-term net-zero partner
CleanMax Managing Director and Founder Kuldeep Jain said, “We are thrilled to expand our partnership with Apple yet again. At CleanMax, we see ourselves as a long-term net-zero partner to corporates, and we are proud to continue working with a company like Apple that continues to push the ecosystem to think bigger, move faster, and build more responsibly.”
