Tata Motors has strengthened its vehicle recycling infrastructure with the inauguration of a new Registered Vehicle Scrapping Facility (RVSF) in Patna, Bihar, capable of dismantling up to 15,000 end-of-life vehicles annually.
The new Re.Wi.Re (Recycle With Respect) facility, spread across 5.5 acres and operated by the Kalahanu Bothra Group, is designed to scientifically dismantle vehicles of all brands and segments, including passenger vehicles, commercial vehicles, two-wheelers and three-wheelers.
The facility was inaugurated by Bihar Transport Minister Damodar Rawat, underscoring the state’s push towards cleaner mobility and safer roads under the National Vehicle Scrappage Policy.
Expanding recycling footprint
With the commissioning of the Patna unit, Tata Motors now operates 12 vehicle scrapping centres across India, with facilities located in Jaipur, Bhubaneswar, Surat, Chandigarh, Delhi NCR, Pune, Guwahati, Raipur, Lucknow, Kolkata, Ahmedabad and Patna.
The company said its nationwide network of Re.Wi.Re facilities is now capable of responsibly dismantling nearly two lakh end-of-life vehicles every year, supporting India’s transition towards a circular economy.
“Tata Motors is equipped with the widest nationwide network of Registered Vehicle Scrapping Facilities to responsibly dismantle close to two lakh end-of-life vehicles annually,” the company said.
Supporting cleaner mobility
Bihar Transport Minister Damodar Rawat said the Patna facility would play an important role in phasing out old and unfit vehicles in a scientific manner while encouraging owners to switch to newer, safer and more fuel-efficient vehicles.
He said modernising the vehicle fleet is essential for reducing emissions and improving road safety across the state.
Circular economy focus
Tata Motors, Vice President & Business Head, Trucks, Rajesh Kaul, said the new facility marks another step in building an organised ecosystem for end-of-life vehicles in India.
He said the National Vehicle Scrappage Policy provides a structured framework for removing polluting and unfit vehicles from the roads while incentivising customers to adopt cleaner and more fuel-efficient vehicles.
Kaul added that Tata Motors continues to work with state governments and partners to expand responsible vehicle recycling infrastructure across the country.
Fully digital operations
According to Tata Motors, every Re.Wi.Re facility operates through a fully digital and paperless process. The centres feature dedicated dismantling stations for tyres, batteries, fuel, oils, liquids and gases to ensure environmentally compliant disposal.
The Patna facility is equipped with cell-type dismantling systems for commercial vehicles, two-wheelers and three-wheelers, alongside line-type dismantling for passenger vehicles, ensuring safe and systematic processing of end-of-life vehicles in line with India’s vehicle scrappage policy.
