Indian Hotels Company Ltd (IHCL), India’s largest hospitality company, has announced the signing of a new Taj hotel in Dharamshala, Himachal Pradesh. The project, a brownfield development with potential for future expansion, will further strengthen IHCL’s presence in one of North India’s most sought-after leisure destinations.
Heritage property to be restored
The 105-key Taj Dharamshala will offer panoramic views of the valley and the snow-capped Dhauladhar mountain range. As part of the project, the heritage wing, historically known as White Haven Estate and once used as the Viceroy’s summer residence in the late 1800s, will be restored and integrated into the hotel.
The property will feature an all-day dining restaurant, two specialty restaurants, a bar and a lobby lounge. Guests will also have access to an indoor temperature-controlled swimming pool, fitness centre and the brand’s signature J Wellness Circle spa.
For corporate events, weddings and social gatherings, the hotel will offer a banquet hall, terrace venue, pre-function areas and meeting rooms.
Strengthening leisure portfolio
IHCL Executive Vice President – Real Estate & Development, Suma Venkatesh said, “Shaped by its spiritual significance and evolving tourism demand, Dharamshala attracts a diverse mix of travellers. IHCL, celebrated for its commitment to responsible destination development, has expanded its leisure itinerary in the scenic state of Himachal Pradesh. We are pleased to partner with Atman Resort & Cottages LLP for this project.”
Dharamshala has emerged as a major tourism destination owing to its blend of spirituality, natural beauty and adventure tourism. The town is home to His Holiness the Dalai Lama and several popular attractions, including the Namgyal Monastery, Bhagsu Waterfall, Dal Lake and Triund trekking trail.
Partnership to boost local tourism
The hotel is being developed in partnership with Atman Resort & Cottages LLP, a Dharamshala-based hospitality partnership firm promoted by Sahil Sharma and Sadhna Sharma. The promoters also have interests in handicrafts, hospitality and furniture manufacturing.
Atman Resort & Cottages LLP, Partners, Sahil Sharma, Sadhna Sharma and Mrinal Sneh Singh said, “We are pleased to partner with IHCL to revive this heritage property. The hotel will contribute to the destination’s tourism and create new opportunities for the local community.”
Expands presence in Himachal Pradesh
With the signing of Taj Dharamshala, IHCL’s portfolio in Himachal Pradesh will grow to 27 hotels, including 12 properties currently under development, reinforcing the company’s focus on expanding its leisure and heritage hospitality offerings across key tourism destinations in India.
