JSW MG Motor India Pvt Ltd, the joint venture between JSW Group and SAIC Motor, has appointed Parth Jindal as Chairman of the company, with immediate effect.
Jindal has been on the board of JSW MG Motor India since the formation of the joint venture and has played a key role in shaping the company’s product strategy, manufacturing expansion and localisation programme.
The appointment comes as JSW MG Motor India looks to deepen its presence in India’s rapidly evolving passenger vehicle market, with a particular focus on electric mobility, connected technologies and increasing localisation.
Jindal’s expanding role across JSW Group
Jindal is Managing Director of JSW Cement and JSW Paints, Chairman of JSW Dulux Limited and a director on the board of JSW Energy. He is also the Founder of JSW Sports and Chairman and Co-Owner of the Delhi Capitals cricket franchise.
His new role at JSW MG Motor India adds another significant responsibility to his portfolio across the JSW Group, particularly at a time when the automotive business is expanding its product range and manufacturing capabilities.
Building a broader automotive portfolio
JSW MG Motor India was formed through a partnership between JSW Group and SAIC Motor, combining JSW’s understanding of the Indian market with SAIC’s global automotive and technology capabilities.
The company has positioned itself around electric mobility, advanced automotive technology, localisation and customer experience. Its portfolio currently spans electric and internal-combustion-engine vehicles, with models such as the MG Windsor EV, MG ZS EV, MG Comet EV, MG Hector and MG Astor playing important roles in its India strategy.
The MG Windsor EV has emerged as a key product for the company, particularly in the mass-market electric passenger vehicle segment. The company says the Windsor has become India’s No. 1-selling EV, while its broader electric vehicle portfolio has helped it establish a strong position in the country’s rapidly growing EV market.
JSW MG Motor India has sold more than 1.5 lakh electric vehicles since introducing its first EV in India, underscoring the company’s early-mover advantage in electric mobility.
Focus on localisation
A major part of the company’s strategy has been to increase local manufacturing and build a stronger domestic supply chain. The joint venture has been investing in localisation of components and technology as it seeks to reduce import dependence and create a more competitive cost structure.
The company is also expanding its manufacturing capabilities and local supplier ecosystem, supporting its ambition to introduce globally competitive technologies while tailoring products to Indian customer requirements.
Its manufacturing facility in Halol, Gujarat, is central to this strategy, with the company seeking to leverage the plant and its expanding supply chain to support future product launches and higher localisation.
EV growth and future roadmap
India’s passenger vehicle market is witnessing a structural shift towards electrification, connected technologies and feature-rich vehicles. JSW MG Motor India has sought to capitalise on this transition through a combination of EVs, premium technology and locally developed solutions.
The company has also been strengthening its charging and ownership ecosystem while expanding access to EVs across Indian markets.
With Jindal now taking charge as Chairman, the company is expected to continue focusing on product expansion, manufacturing scale-up, localisation and sustainable mobility, while leveraging SAIC’s global technology capabilities and JSW Group’s domestic business ecosystem.
The leadership change comes at an important phase for the joint venture as it seeks to consolidate its position in India’s competitive passenger vehicle market and build a larger, locally integrated automotive business.
