Cognizant Launches New Ace Team To Build AI-Ready Engineering Pool

CW Bureau ·

IT services major Cognizant has unveiled the Cognizant Ace Team programme, a strategic initiative aimed at creating a high-calibre engineering talent pool that will spearhead digital transformation projects and accelerate the company’s transition into an AI builder organisation.

The India-first programme combines selective hiring, an elite talent development pathway and a centrally governed engineering community aligned with Cognizant’s advanced capability strategy.

Building an AI-native engineering force
Cognizant said the Ace Team programme is designed to bring together high-potential engineers who can tackle real-world client challenges using AI-native tools, modern technology architectures and outcome-focused delivery models.

Selected engineers will work in focused, high-impact teams and play a key role in launching critical initiatives, developing emerging technology solutions and delivering measurable business outcomes for clients.

The company expects Ace Team members to contribute directly to the creation of next-generation AI-driven solutions across industries.

Supporting Cognizant’s AI transformation strategy
The programme is expected to serve as a cornerstone of Cognizant’s evolution into an AI builder organisation. According to the company, the initiative aligns with its three-vector strategy of Hyperproductivity, Industrializing AI and Agentification, helping create a strong engineering foundation for large-scale AI deployment.

Cognizant said the programme will support the development of niche, high-value AI offerings while enabling the execution of complex technology transformation projects. The initiative is also expected to accelerate time-to-market, drive end-to-end modernization and help build scalable, future-ready platforms.

Focus on skills, not pedigree
Unlike conventional hiring models that often emphasize academic pedigree, Cognizant said selection for the Ace Team programme will be based on technical excellence, AI fluency and communication capabilities.

The multi-stage evaluation process includes communication assessments, aptitude tests, technical assessments and technical interviews.

Candidates will be evaluated on industry-relevant skills such as full-stack AI development, data structures and algorithms, prompt engineering, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), agentic AI and modern front-end development.

Engineers to work on live AI projects
Selected candidates will be hired into differentiated roles with specialised career paths and deployment models. Ace Team members are expected to join as full-stack AI engineers and begin contributing to client engagements early in their careers. Their work will involve developing production-grade AI solutions, including RAG pipelines, agentic workflows and large language model (LLM)-integrated applications.

The company said the programme is designed to create engineers capable of moving AI initiatives from experimentation to large-scale enterprise deployment.

Initial rollout targets select candidates
In the first phase, the programme will be open to existing offer holders and select off-campus candidates, including graduates from Tier-1 institutions.

Cognizant plans to gradually expand participation to premium campuses, partner institutions, internal associates and laterals with one to three years of industry experience.

Driving AI from concept to production
Cognizant India Chairman & Managing Director Rajesh Varrier said enterprises are increasingly moving beyond AI pilots toward real-world implementation.

“Through Ace Team, we are building a differentiated talent engine that directly supports our three-vector strategy of Hyperproductivity, Industrializing AI and Agentification, with the goal of enabling us to take AI from concepts to production and apply it at scale across industries,” Varrier said.
