JSW Greentech Ltd, the commercial electric vehicle arm of the JSW Group, has launched AMPSTAR, a new brand under which it will design, manufacture and sell electric buses and trucks in India, marking the group’s entry into commercial mobility.
Endorsed as AMPSTAR: powered by JSW, the brand is positioned as a full-stack electric commercial mobility offering covering the entire customer journey, from vehicles and charging infrastructure to operating solutions, financing and after-sales support.
Flexible ownership and power options
AMPSTAR customers will be able to specify vehicles across power configurations ranging from 150 kW to 500 kW. The company will also offer multiple ownership and operating models, including outright purchase, leasing and Battery as a Service (BaaS).
JSW Greentech said the approach is aimed at addressing barriers to electric vehicle adoption that extend beyond the vehicle itself.
15,000-vehicle annual capacity
AMPSTAR vehicles will be manufactured at JSW’s integrated EV manufacturing facility spread across 90 acres at AURIC, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra. The facility has an annual production capacity of 15,000 electric buses and trucks.
The plant will feature what JSW Greentech described as India’s first pre-treatment and electro-deposition (PT-ED) process for bus manufacturing, a technology widely used in advanced automotive markets. It will also have an automated truck-cabin production line and an integrated battery ecosystem.
Vehicles engineered for Indian conditions
JSW Greentech said AMPSTAR vehicles have been engineered in-house for Indian operating conditions. The company has developed the base logic, software and algorithms for the electric drivetrain, enabling it to customise vehicles for specific customer requirements.
The vehicles will feature a double-cooling battery system and a high-strength monocoque chassis, designed specifically for India’s climate and road conditions.
JSW Group Chairman Sajjan Jindal said the company’s entry into electric commercial mobility was aimed at reducing dependence on imported fuel while making the economics of electric mobility viable for customers.
“When they do, the impact goes far beyond the vehicle itself: energy security, lower logistics costs and greater global competitiveness for Indian industry, a stronger manufacturing ecosystem built here in India, and a cleaner future for the next generation,” Jindal said.
Buses from 7 metres to 18 metres
JSW Group’s Parth Jindal said AMPSTAR was designed after discussions with customers and other stakeholders, with the company identifying barriers to adoption beyond the vehicle.
The brand combines “Amp”, derived from ampere, the unit of electric current, with “Star”, representing aspiration, leadership and progress. The company said the brand represents “Powered Progress”.
55-tonne electric truck to lead portfolio
JSW Greentech Ltd, CEO, Sumit Mittal said the company was developing and manufacturing its vehicles in India, including its own electric drivetrain and software.
On the bus side, AMPSTAR’s portfolio will span 7-metre to 18-metre buses, targeting applications including staff transportation, city, intercity and school mobility.
On the truck side, the company will initially launch a 55-tonne tractor-trailer, with plans to expand into tippers and fixed-body dumpers in the coming months.
JSW Greentech said AMPSTAR’s full-stack approach is intended to make the transition to electric commercial mobility simpler for operators while building an indigenous manufacturing and technology ecosystem
