IndiGo CEO Pieter Elbers Steps Down; Rahul Bhatia To Take Interim Charge

CW Bureau ·

InterGlobe Aviation Ltd, which operates IndiGo, said its Chief Executive Officer Pieter Elbers has stepped down with immediate effect. Managing Director Rahul Bhatia will take charge of the airline’s affairs on an interim basis.

In a statement, the low-cost carrier said Bhatia will lead the company until a new CEO is appointed, which is expected shortly.

Chairman Vikram Singh Mehta said Bhatia would return to oversee the airline’s operations to strengthen organisational culture, reinforce operational excellence and deepen IndiGo’s commitment to delivering reliable and professional service to customers.

Bhatia said he felt a deep sense of responsibility towards the airline, its stakeholders and the country.

“While placing culture, service excellence and stakeholder trust at the forefront of its operations, IndiGo will continue to sharpen its strategic focus on serving India and its people with an airline that is professionally managed, operationally reliable and globally respected,” he said.

In his resignation letter addressed to Bhatia, Pieter said he was stepping down with immediate effect due to personal reasons.

“It has been an honour and privilege to serve as IndiGo’s CEO since September 2022 and to be part of the IndiGo family and its growth story,” he said.

The board thanked Pieter for his contribution and wished him well in his future endeavours.
