JSW Steel Named Worldsteel Sustainability Champion For 8th Year

CW Bureau ·

JSW Steel Ltd has been recognised as a Sustainability Champion by the World Steel Association (worldsteel) for the eighth consecutive year.

Worldsteel’s Sustainability Champions Programme honours member organisations that demonstrate a robust and consistent commitment to sustainable development.

Eligibility criteria and framework

To qualify, companies must meet three core criteria. First, they must provide verifiable evidence of meeting 20 criteria spanning environmental, social, governance, and economic dimensions, as defined by worldsteel’s Sustainability Charter.

Second, they must submit Life Cycle Inventory data covering over 60% of their crude steel production to worldsteel. This data tracks and quantifies environmental inputs and outputs across the cradle-to-gate life cycle of steel products.

Industry recognition requirement

Third, companies must have received formal industry recognition through a nomination for a worldsteel Steelie Award or acknowledgement under the association’s Safety and Health Recognition Programme.

“Being named a worldsteel Sustainability Champion for the eighth consecutive year reflects the seriousness with which sustainability is embedded in JSW Steel’s business strategy. We view sustainability not as an obligation, but as a key source of long-term competitiveness, shaping how we invest, innovate, and operate at scale,” JSW Steel Joint Managing Director and CEO Jayant Acharya said.

“This recognition validates our belief that disciplined execution and measurable progress are essential as the steel industry transitions toward a low-carbon, resilient future,” he added.

Focus on low-carbon transition

As the global steel industry accelerates its transition toward low-carbon production, sustained recognition of this nature underlines that JSW Steel’s sustainability agenda is not only clearly defined, but also measurable, credible, and consistently advancing.

JSW Steel said the recognition reflects the collective efforts of its stakeholders in advancing sustainable operations and value creation. The Company added that the honour strengthens its resolve to continue delivering sustainable value for stakeholders, communities, and the environment, aligned with its ethos of being #BetterEveryday.
