National Test House, Northern Region, Ghaziabad has established a state-of-the-art shoe testing laboratory to provide comprehensive and high-precision footwear testing services for MSMEs, manufacturers, exporters, consumers and regulatory authorities across the country.
The organisation said the facility marks an important step towards strengthening India’s quality assurance infrastructure for the rapidly growing footwear sector and enhancing the country’s manufacturing competitiveness.
Facility equipped for multiple footwear categories
The upgraded laboratory has been equipped with modern testing instruments and advanced infrastructure to evaluate a wide range of footwear products in accordance with relevant Indian Standards.
The laboratory is capable of testing multiple categories of footwear including safety and industrial shoes, school and leather footwear, PVC footwear, sandals and chappals, children’s footwear, sports footwear and specialised protective boots used in industrial and hazardous environments.
Focus on safety and quality compliance
The facility will undertake a comprehensive range of performance and quality tests aimed at ensuring safety, durability, comfort and product performance standards.
NTH said the laboratory has been designed to provide accurate, dependable and timely testing services at affordable charges, thereby improving accessibility to quality assessment services, particularly for MSMEs and small-scale manufacturers.
Strategic location to support industry
Strategically located in Ghaziabad near major footwear manufacturing clusters such as Delhi-NCR, Kanpur and Agra, the laboratory is expected to facilitate faster sample testing, reduce logistics costs and improve accessibility for footwear manufacturers across northern India.
The organisation said the facility would help manufacturers meet stringent domestic and international quality requirements, thereby improving product reliability, consumer safety, export competitiveness and market acceptance.

According to NTH, the laboratory will play a key role in facilitating quality compliance and enhancing the global competitiveness of Indian footwear products by supporting adherence to domestic and international standards.
The initiative is aligned with the vision of “Viksit Bharat” and the objectives of the “Make in India” mission aimed at strengthening manufacturing competitiveness, promoting self-reliance and building a robust quality assurance ecosystem for the Indian footwear industry.
