Maruti Fronx Crosses 2 Lakh Exports, Fastest SUV To Reach The Milestone

CW Bureau ·

Maruti Suzuki India Ltd’s Fronx has crossed the 2 lakh export milestone in under 38 months, making it the fastest SUV from India to achieve the feat, as the Made-in-India model continues to gain traction in global markets.

The SUV, which began exports in June 2023, reached its first lakh exports in less than 25 months before adding the second lakh in around 13 months, highlighting the acceleration in overseas demand.

Manufactured at Maruti Suzuki’s Hansalpur facility in Gujarat, the Fronx is currently exported to nearly 90 countries, including Japan.

Export momentum accelerates
The rapid increase in Fronx exports comes as Maruti Suzuki continues to strengthen its international presence. Since FY25, the Fronx has been India’s No.1 exported passenger vehicle, according to the company.

Maruti Suzuki India Ltd Managing Director & CEO Hisashi Takeuchi, said the Fronx has been a key contributor to the company’s export performance and its growing international demand demonstrates the appeal of Indian-made vehicles.

“Fronx has been a key contributor to Maruti Suzuki’s success in exports. Since FY 24-25, it has been India’s No. 1 exported passenger vehicle and is now shipped to nearly 90 countries,” Takeuchi said.

He added that the second lakh exports were achieved significantly faster than the first, underlining the model’s growing acceptance in international markets.

India’s manufacturing prowess
Takeuchi said Maruti Suzuki’s export strategy is aligned with the ‘Make in India, Make for the World’ vision and reflects the capabilities of India’s manufacturing ecosystem.

The company has maintained its position as India’s No.1 passenger vehicle exporter for five consecutive years.

Maruti Suzuki currently exports 17 models to nearly 120 countries. In Q1 FY27, its leading export models were the Fronx, Jimny 5-Door, e VITARA, Dzire and Baleno.

The company accounted for more than 55% of India’s passenger vehicle exports in Q1 FY27, according to company data.

Notably, all three of India’s top exported passenger vehicle models during the quarter were Maruti Suzuki models.

Export portfolio broadens
The Fronx milestone comes as Maruti Suzuki increasingly leverages its domestic manufacturing base to serve international markets.

The company’s export portfolio now spans nearly 120 countries, while the Fronx alone has established a presence in around 90 markets.

The acceleration from the first to the second lakh exports suggests that the SUV is gaining momentum beyond traditional export destinations, potentially strengthening Maruti Suzuki’s position in the global compact SUV market.

With export volumes continuing to grow year-on-year, the company sees international demand as an important pillar of its broader growth strategy and a validation of the competitiveness and reliability of vehicles manufactured in India.
