Adani Energy Solutions Ltd (AESL) has won a ₹4,700-crore transmission project to evacuate renewable energy generated in Karnataka to major load centres in Maharashtra, while supporting the growing pumped storage ecosystem across Satara, Pune and the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.
The project, named “Network Expansion Scheme in Western Region to Cater to Pumped Storage Potential near Satara (up to 4,500 MW) – Part A”, was awarded through the Tariff Based Competitive Bidding process, with AESL emerging as the lowest bidder.
Project to add 562 circuit km
Housed under Special Purpose Vehicle Satara Power Transmission Ltd, the project will be delivered within 36 months and will add 562 circuit kilometres of transmission lines and 9,000 MVA of transformation capacity to AESL’s portfolio.
The addition will take AESL’s cumulative transmission network to 29,739 circuit kilometres and its transformation capacity to 1,43,425 MVA.
Transmission backbone to support renewables
“The Satara transmission project will create a vital transmission backbone to support both renewable energy evacuation and energy storage deployment, strengthening power flows between Southern and Western India,” said Adani Energy Solutions, CEO, Kandarp Patel.
“AESL remains committed to building future-ready transmission infrastructure that enables renewable energy growth, enhances grid stability and supports India’s long-term decarbonisation goals,” he said.
Substation forms key part
The project includes the establishment of a 765/400 kV substation at Satara, a Kolhapur-Satara 765 kV double-circuit transmission line and augmentation of the Kolhapur pooling station, along with associated transmission infrastructure.
The project is expected to strengthen the movement of renewable power from Karnataka towards major consumption centres in Maharashtra and facilitate the integration of pumped storage capacity in the region.
Grid expansion supports energy transition
India is targeting 500 GW of non-fossil energy capacity by 2030, making transmission infrastructure a critical component of the country’s energy transition.
AESL is expanding its transmission portfolio through specialised schemes designed to connect renewable energy resources, including solar, wind and pumped storage, with major industrial and urban load center’s across the country.
