J&K Bank Eyes National Expansion With Focus On Digital & Growth

CW Bureau ·

Jammu & Kashmir Bank Ltd is focusing on quality credit growth, stable retail deposits, digital expansion and stronger risk management as it seeks to build a larger presence beyond its traditional markets in Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh.

The bank also plans to expand its branch network, improve customer service, maintain a healthy CASA ratio and strengthen financial inclusion as it responds to rapidly changing customer preferences and increasing adoption of digital banking.

Management comment

“As we look ahead, we remain confident in the opportunities before us. Our stronger foundations, coupled with continued investment in technology, people and risk management, position our Bank to deliver sustainable growth in an increasingly dynamic landscape,” MD & CEO, Amitava Chatterjee said in a letter to shareholders.

Bank of choice ambition

The bank aims to become the ‘Bank of Choice’ by investing in its people, strengthening cybersecurity and fostering a culture of innovation and excellence.

Disciplined risk management and regulatory compliance will remain central to its strategy, particularly as banking operations increasingly depend on digital channels and emerging technologies.

Cybersecurity takes priority

J&K Bank is strengthening its cybersecurity framework to address risks associated with cloud computing, mobile banking, encrypted services and social media.

The initiatives include strengthening systems, policies, governance structures and response mechanisms to improve the bank’s ability to identify, prevent and mitigate emerging cyber threats.

Focus on NPA recovery

The bank has also established Zonal Impaired Asset Recovery Centres to strengthen its recovery framework. One centre has been established in each zone to enable focused monitoring, follow-up and recovery of non-performing asset accounts.

With nearly nine decades of history, the bank is seeking to build on its strong roots in Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh while establishing a stronger national footprint.

Digital transformation underway

The bank said the rapid evolution of the banking industry, driven by changing customer needs and technology adoption, makes digital agility a business imperative.

It is continuing to invest in technology, processes and operating capabilities to improve customer experience and business outcomes, while seeking to build a more responsive and customer-focused institution.
