Adani Energy Solutions Ltd (AESL), India’s largest private transmission and distribution company, has secured the highest ESG score globally among companies in the Utilities sector, according to S&P Global’s latest Media and Stakeholder Analysis (MSA) review.
Following the review, AESL’s ESG score rose to 90 out of 100 from 81 earlier. The score compares with an industry average of 41.
Score rises after review
The improvement followed the correction of a governance-related assessment that had previously affected the company’s ESG score.
AESL’s disclosure-based Corporate Sustainability Assessment score also increased by 17 points year-on-year to 90.
Strong performance across ESG parameters
AESL scored 93 in Environmental, 89 in Social and 84 in Governance & Economic parameters.
The company’s performance was driven by areas including Product Stewardship, Climate Strategy and Human Capital Management.
Focus on sustainable growth
“Being recognised as the highest ESG-scored utility company globally by S&P Global is a proud milestone for AESL and a strong validation of our commitment to sustainable growth,” Adani Energy Solutions, CEO, Kandarp Patel, said.

ESG integrated into operations
“This achievement reflects the dedication of our teams across the organisation, who continuously work to strengthen our environmental performance, social impact, governance standards, and disclosure practices,” he said.
The latest assessment places AESL at the top of the global Utilities sector, with its score more than twice the industry average.
