Crown Holdings, Inc. has broken ground on its first beverage can manufacturing facility in India, at Unnao in Uttar Pradesh, marking a major milestone in the company’s expansion into one of the world’s fastest-growing beverage markets.
Announced in April 2026, the state-of-the-art facility represents an investment of $550 million and will feature two production lines with an annual capacity of approximately 2.2 billion aluminium beverage cans. Operations are scheduled to begin in the second half of 2027.
Plant to serve growing beverage demand
The groundbreaking ceremony underscored Crown’s long-term commitment to India and Uttar Pradesh. The facility will support growing demand for aluminium beverage cans across both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverage categories.
“This investment reflects Crown’s confidence in the future of the Indian beverage market, and the growing role of the beverage can as a sustainable packaging solution,” said Crown Holdings, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, Djalma Novaes.
Focus on technology and sustainability
The Unnao facility is being designed with advanced manufacturing technologies and high quality and sustainability standards. It will combine manufacturing technology, operational excellence and responsible resource management to support customers’ growth and create long-term value for the region, Novaes said.
The investment reinforces Crown’s strategy of serving customers in high-growth markets while expanding its manufacturing footprint in India.
Partnership with Uttar Pradesh Government
The company said the project also reflects the strong partnership Crown has established with the Uttar Pradesh Government.
The facility is expected to strengthen the local supply of aluminium beverage cans as demand grows across India’s beverage industry.
Crown expands global packaging presence
Crown Holdings is a global supplier of rigid packaging products to consumer marketing companies. It also provides transit and protective packaging products, equipment and services to a broad range of end markets.
The company is headquartered in Tampa, Florida, and the Unnao facility will form part of its broader manufacturing network as it expands its presence in the Indian market.
