West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari laid the foundation stone for a 2,000-bed Adani Arogya Mandir at Bengal Silicon Valley Tech Hub in Kolkata, with the Adani Foundation investing over ₹4,000 crore in the project.
The healthcare and academic campus, spread across 51.75 acres, will comprise a multi-speciality hospital, step-down and transitional care facilities, and accommodation for patients’ relatives.
The project is expected to cater to over 200,000 inpatients and more than two million outpatients annually and generate about 10,000 jobs.
Campus to combine healthcare and education
“The Adani Arogya Mandir will be a world-class, not-for-profit medical institution that will have 2,000 beds — with a thousand beds catering to economically weaker sections of society, eligible under State and Central health insurance schemes,” Adani Group, Chairman, Gautam Adani, said.
The campus will also have a medical college with an annual intake of 150 undergraduate students, more than 100 postgraduate students and over 40 super-speciality students. A College of Nursing and institutions for allied healthcare and paramedical education will form part of the ecosystem.
Cancer care to anchor first phase
The first phase of the multi-speciality hospital will focus on cancer care, offering advanced tertiary and highly specialised healthcare services.
The campus will include a Meditel and Vishram Gruh to provide accommodation for relatives of patients. Residential facilities for healthcare professionals and their families are also planned.
Research to support specialised care
The research ecosystem will cover genomics, precision medicine, biomedical informatics, artificial intelligence, clinical trials, molecular sciences and other applied biomedical disciplines.
The institution will focus on translating scientific research into improved diagnosis, treatment and prevention. The investment is also expected to create a platform for Centres of Excellence across specialities and super-specialities in the second phase.
Group expands Kolkata initiatives
The Adani Group said the project is intended to create a comprehensive healthcare destination in Kolkata and help reduce the need for patients from the region to travel outside the State for specialised treatment.
The Group has also announced support for the revitalisation of the Kumartuli Ghat and signed two MoUs with the West Bengal Government for restoration of the historic Writers’ Building and promotion of Kolkata’s Durga Puja heritage globally through Adani Pujo Preview.
The cultural initiative will support puja organisers, artists, artisans, service providers and the wider ecosystem associated with Bengal’s Durga Puja celebrations.
