CW Bureau ·

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has said a sample of Nestle’s ‘Low Fat Dairy Whitener’ collected from Bharat Hotels Ltd’s The Lalit in Connaught Place, New Delhi, was declared “unsafe” and “substandard” by a Food Analyst’s laboratory report under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.

The food safety regulator has directed that the sale of the identified product be immediately prohibited.

Sample collected from The Lalit
According to the findings issued by FSSAI, the sample was drawn from the premises of M/s Bharat Hotels Ltd. (The Lalit), Connaught Place, New Delhi.

The subsequent laboratory analysis found the sample of Nestlé Low Fat Dairy Whitener to be both “substandard” and “unsafe”, indicating non-compliance with the provisions of the FSS Act, 2006.

Laboratory report triggers action
FSSAI said a copy of the laboratory analysis report was provided to the Food Business Operator (FBO) for reference and necessary action.

A notice was also issued to Bharat Hotels Ltd. (The Lalit) regarding the non-compliant Low Fat Dairy Whitener product.

The FBO was given an opportunity to appeal against the Food Analyst’s report under the relevant provisions of the FSS Act within the prescribed period.

Sale of identified product prohibited
FSSAI said the FBO was directed to immediately prohibit the sale of the identified unsafe food product.

The regulator’s action relates to the specific sample collected from The Lalit and the findings of the Food Analyst’s laboratory report. The information provided by FSSAI does not, by itself, establish that every unit of Nestlé Low Fat Dairy Whitener in the market is unsafe or substandard.
