IndiGo To Start International Flights From Navi Mumbai Airport In Feb’ 27

CW Bureau ·

IndiGo, India’s largest airline by market share, plans to commence international operations from Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) in February 2027.

The move is being developed in partnership with Adani Airport Holdings Ltd (AAHL).

Dual airport system

The airline will progressively shift 12 daily international departures from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) to NMIA.

The transition will strengthen Mumbai’s dual-airport system and support IndiGo’s long-term plans to develop Navi Mumbai as an international hub.

Twelve international destinations planned

The services being shifted cover Bahrain, Riyadh, Dammam, Jeddah, Madinah, Kuwait, Ras Al Khaimah, Fujairah, Muscat, Dhaka and Jakarta. IndiGo will also introduce an additional daily service to Kathmandu.

The airline expects to expand its international network at NMIA to 12 destinations between February and July 2027.

It will also shift the necessary domestic connections from CSMIA to NMIA to support international services and provide onward connectivity.

Airport infrastructure being developed

AAHL is working with IndiGo to put in place the infrastructure required for a smooth transfer between domestic and international flights at NMIA. The arrangement is intended to improve passenger convenience and support the airport’s international expansion.

IndiGo will announce the final transition dates and new services from CSMIA after completing project coordination and securing the necessary operating approvals.

Mumbai airport capacity to be rebalanced

The transfer will free up capacity at CSMIA, which faces operational constraints. IndiGo plans to use the additional capacity to expand international services across Asia, Africa and Europe in 2027, supported by its growing fleet of A320, A321 and A321XLR aircraft.

The shift will also help accommodate capacity reductions required for the redevelopment of CSMIA’s Terminal 1 by 2030. IndiGo and AAHL will work to accommodate any further adjustments to IndiGo’s Terminal 1 operations at Terminal 2.

Dual-airport system to improve connectivity

The phased transition is intended to distribute capacity more evenly between Mumbai’s two airports. The plan takes into account airlines’ existing presence at CSMIA and aims to minimise disruption while giving carriers greater planning certainty.

The expansion is expected to improve access to domestic and international destinations for passengers across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.
