Transformers and Rectifiers (India) Ltd (TARIL), a manufacturer of power and distribution transformers, will invest ₹1,250 crore to establish three greenfield manufacturing plants at its Chiyada manufacturing complex in Gujarat.
The facilities will manufacture high-voltage bushings, pressboard and insulation materials, and continuously transposed conductors (CTC), key components used in transformer manufacturing.
The investment is aimed at strengthening domestic manufacturing capabilities and reducing dependence on imports.
Plants to begin operations in FY28
Construction of the three facilities commenced in December 2025, with commercial operations expected to begin in the first quarter of FY28.
The plants will operate under a wholly owned consolidated ancillary subsidiary of TARIL, giving the company control over manufacturing quality, technology, procurement and strategic direction.
Once fully operational, the facilities are expected to generate annual revenue of around ₹2,000 crore and create more than 1,000 direct jobs across engineering, manufacturing, operations, quality assurance and research and development.
Focus on critical transformer components
The bushing plant will manufacture oil-impregnated paper (OIP), resin-impregnated paper (RIP) and resin-impregnated fibre (RIF) bushings rated up to 800 kV. These are specialised components used in extra-high-voltage transformers.
The other two facilities will manufacture pressboard and insulation materials, and CTC. Together, the plants are expected to strengthen TARIL’s vertically integrated manufacturing operations and improve the availability of critical components for India’s power transmission and distribution network.
Investment targets supply chain resilience
The company expects in-house manufacturing to improve quality control, reduce lead times and enhance operational efficiency while strengthening supply chain resilience.
The project also supports the Government’s Make in India and Atmanirbhar Bharat initiatives by expanding indigenous manufacturing of critical power equipment components.
Management comment
“Our investment is aligned with this national vision by strengthening domestic manufacturing capabilities for critical transformer components, reducing import dependence and contributing to a resilient power infrastructure ecosystem built in India, for India and the world,” Transformers and Rectifiers (India) Ltd, Chairman, Jitendra Mamtora, said.
“This investment represents far more than a capacity expansion. It is a strategic move towards deep vertical integration. Manufacturing bushings, pressboard and insulation materials, and CTC in-house will provide greater control over quality, lead times and operational efficiency while improving supply chain resilience,” the company’s Managing Director and CEO, Satyen Mamtora, said.
