Maruti Suzuki India has exported more than 50,000 units of its Made-in-India electric vehicle since August 2025, with Europe continuing to be its largest overseas market. The milestone highlights the growing role of India as a manufacturing and export base for electric passenger vehicles.
The company said it was India’s largest exporter of electric vehicles in FY2025-26 and retained its leadership position during April-September FY2026-27. It accounted for nearly 93% of India’s electric passenger vehicle exports during the first half of the current fiscal year.
The electric vehicle export programme began in August 2025 with the commencement of global shipments of the e-VITARA, Suzuki’s first global battery electric vehicle. The model is manufactured exclusively at Maruti Suzuki’s Hansalpur facility in Gujarat for sale in more than 100 countries.
Europe leads export demand
Europe was the first market to receive the e-VITARA and remains the largest destination for the electric SUV. Maruti Suzuki currently exports the vehicle to nearly 50 countries, reflecting the expansion of its international EV distribution network.
“Today, Maruti Suzuki exports EVs to nearly 50 of these countries, with Europe being the largest destination,” said Maruti Suzuki India Managing Director and CEO Hisashi Takeuchi said.
He said the company accounted for nearly 93% of India’s electric passenger vehicle exports during April-September 2026, demonstrating the competitiveness of India’s manufacturing capabilities.
The export milestone also builds on Maruti Suzuki’s broader presence in overseas markets. The company has been India’s largest passenger vehicle exporter for five consecutive years and held more than 50% of the country’s passenger vehicle export market during April-September 2026.
Maruti Suzuki currently exports 16 vehicle models to nearly 120 countries, giving it a diversified international distribution network beyond electric vehicles.
Hansalpur emerges as a strategic export hub
The Hansalpur manufacturing facility is central to the company’s electric vehicle ambitions. It is the exclusive production base for Suzuki’s first global battery electric vehicle and has recently expanded its annual production capacity to one million vehicles.
The facility is the first Suzuki manufacturing plant globally to achieve an annual production capacity of one million vehicles at a single location.
With cumulative investments of ₹25,288.7 crore, Hansalpur has also become a significant export hub for Maruti Suzuki. The facility accounted for nearly half of the company’s total overseas shipments in FY2025-26.
The combination of large-scale manufacturing capacity and an established export network positions the Gujarat facility as a key part of Suzuki’s global production strategy.
Make in India, Make for the World
The e-VITARA export programme began when Prime Minister Narendra Modi commemorated the start of production at the Hansalpur facility in August 2025. The event highlighted the plant’s role in the Centre’s Make in India initiative.
Crossing 50,000 cumulative exports within little more than a year of the start of global shipments marks an important milestone for Maruti Suzuki’s electric vehicle programme.
The company’s export performance also underscores India’s emerging role in global automotive supply chains, particularly as manufacturers expand electric vehicle offerings across international markets.
With Europe leading demand and shipments reaching nearly 50 countries, Maruti Suzuki’s next challenge will be to sustain export momentum while scaling electric vehicle production to serve its growing international market.
